Is there any error in MT4? What EA did you use? Have you compile the EA before load it up onto chart?

No errors. It all the grids I've tried show up in the left hand pane, under "Custom Indicators." But when I try to drag-n-drop onto a chart, literally nothing happens like with all the other custom indies I've installed in MT4.

If I right click, and try to edit in the editor so that I can compile it, it won't open.

I have a few grid I've tried, I think most I downloaded from either this thread, or one other. In my list they are:

  1. 02B BreakGrid
  2. Grid MonsterEA~
  3. GRID V102
  4. GRID V102.3
  5. Grid_Demo
  6. MakeGrid193BE

If the grids are EAs, you should place them in the experts folder ... not indicators folder ...

No. It won't work after i have done thousand of hypothesis test and analysis. Finally i realize one concept, all the available systems are not working forever. It works sometimes if market is good enough. Grid system is just part of the trade management, is a contribution to RR ratio. Grid is also a method to open position as much as possible in order to earn more due to bigger lots size in total at different price level, meaning to say it it better to enter the trade by using multiple position rather than one position to trade.

So the deep testing and fine tuning of Version 101 is closed now.

Just a thought, but have you noticed whether or not the system is more likely to fail once price reaches a certain extension beyond the open?

I.e, if for example the Average Daily Range is say 80 pips...... Would it be obvious to see if there is a certain threshold that the EA should STOP taking trades? I.e. say if price moved greater than that 80 pips off the open, the EA should stop?

Similarly on the smaller side, maybe there is some minimum distance, I.e 20 pips where you would want to WAIT till price moves a minimum distance before initiating any trades?

Just a thought?

Yes. I have this idea. However, it won't work forever. And even if i have the optimal setting, but the optimal value is the past tense. Unless there is some kind of value maybe volatility (Std deviation, CCI, ATR ....), to give a reference value for parameter configuration. Meaning to say, if volatility is x value, so optimal parameters would be y configuration, different volatility gives different optimal value. Then it would work with follow the market behaviour.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Was thinking maybe something like ADR might give that 'rolling' value that would take into account volatility.

Em...but in my opinion, indicator is always lagging. It is not useful. The only way is to use big grid size. This had been tested, it works well forever. However, i am not going to earn this small money for my patience. I might post here later if time is allowed. What i have noticed from the chart, let say EURUSD, price does always move swing high and low to form a small wave, usually it swing 30 to 50 pips before it continue further the direction. So if the grid size is set just tight, then it would fail many times. This is why bigger grid size works well.

Version 202: 2x Risk and 3x Reward Grid EA
It works well for bigger grid size 100 pips no matter how does the market react, whether is during Lehman bro crisis, euro crisis or whenever event. If you check from the higher time frame chart, you will know how exactly the trend reacts, and 100 pips x 2 can filter many correction, and small swing high and low.


The EA has been backtested during 2004 to 2010 by using capital $5000 with 1 fixed lot size. No MM is applied.

I'm not a grid expert but could I throw out quick observation - grid systems work best in ranges, right? So why not just run the grid on a ranging pair (eg EURGBP) and during a ranging period (eg Asian session)?

Depend on which type of grid system, maybe those orders with buylimit and selllimit could fullfill this scenario. But i don't think any of the EA here works in ranging case except version V101 might work.

By the way, i have found and understand that grid is just a portion of one system. In fact, it is belong to trade management more than just a standalone grid system, because i have the successful system privately. Thanks.
