Grid - New indicator that replaces chart grid

<hr style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225);" size="1"> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --> This has nothing to do with the popular Grid trading methods. Rather it is a replacement for the default chart grid.

This indicator let's you set up a grid to what suits your trading, not what metatrader makes up. You can set the horizontal lines every X pips and it stays fixed at that even if you change the chart period. You can also set up the time grid to what ever time period you want.

Here's a sample 1 hour chart, show the horizontal grid at 20 pips and the time gird at 4 hours. On the time grid I have a color line at 16:00 server time which translate to 8 am my local time. Color lines are also added every 100 pips.

I wanted the lines to not appear at all on daily/weekly charts so I added the following code after each "ObjectCreate" line :

ObjectSet( gridname, OBJPROP_TIMEFRAMES, OBJ_PERIOD_M1+OBJ_PERIOD_M5+OBJ_PERIOD_M15+OBJ_PERIOD_M30+OBJ_PERIOD_H1+OBJ_PERIOD_H4);

Sorry to bring back such an old thread, but I've been searching forever for an indicator and this is as close to a start as I could find.

Is anyone aware of a MT4 indicator to set horizontal grid lines based on a number other than 00?

For example, if I wanted to set a grid line starting at 1.2727 and every 100 pips from that number.

If anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it!

Try these. Two since MT has only 8 buffers.

I have DL and tried each of the above provided indies and I do thank each of you for your efforts to share those.

Bad news ...
None of them will do what I need done.

So what exactly do I need ...
I am looking for the ability of an indicator to draw horizontal lines specifically at these pip levels, above and below a given round number price point such as 1.30000 on the EURUSD (these would be for a five digit system, but ideally could be used for any broker by just deleting or adding zeros).

I would like to be able to do that in one or two sets of those, in both directions.

It would be super if it would accomodate itself to changing price levels so that when current price changed to 1.40000, they would redraw themselves but that is not essential (just convenient).

Also so that the line thickness, style and color can all be set to accomodate different chart colors and setups.

Those two indicators are just about ideal. That is a great skill to have at your disposal. My congratz to you. I can get inside an mq4 script and change preset levels and colors, etc. but to create one from scratch has eluded me.

I know, one just has to go and spend the time to become adept at it, right? But there are just not enough hours in the day. Now, if I could figure out how to get by on no sleep whatsoever ...

Anyway, I have one bug advisement and one request.

Bug advisement first:
The Colors Tab:Style setting for the lines. If they are set to anything other than "solid" in the parameters section (say, dashed or dotted), once they are displayed on the chart - then when the timeframe (TF) is changed, the ones whose style was changed from the default immediately default back to a solid line. They stay that way regardless of the TF after that until one goes into the parameters box and resets them.

The settings for the line thickness is also acting in the same way. Changes to the default settings for Colors Tab:Width is acting in the same way and are not retained over TF changes.

However, to give the indicators their due, the selected different color is NOT changing back to the default with TF changes.

And the above described bug is present in both indicators.

I'll just bet it is simple to fix those but I don't know how to do that tweak.

Could you add a parameter to make it possible to repeat the seven levels (for both indicators) so that for a currpair that was ranging to that degree could be accommodated for price changes of greater than 100 pips?

A parameter default for this could be one repetition, with it possible to change it to allow lines to be drawn another full set of an additional seven lines, either (up for the aMarkHorizontalUP1) or (down for the aMarkHorizontalDN1) for each additional integer increase, so that an input of a 2 would produce two sets of lines in that direction.

That addition would make it an even greater productivity tool.

1) That is how MT4 works - it's something everyone has to deal with.
2) The limit on buffers is 8. 1 pivot point and 7 lines. To get more just place a second copy of the indicator on the chart.
ps: Skill - well I have spent my entire working career on computers.
Sleep - yep, that would be good. The best deals are at 2 am CT (London open) when I am asleep.

hey abinadi.... to retain your settings when changing timeframes remove or comment out the ,STYLE_SOLID,2);..... on each line it appears.... look at the edited code below..... then recompile the indicator......

to add additional lines up/down you can write a function that will draw horizontal lines...... it will not use buffers so it will have no limits to the number of lines.........h
