DislikedPerhaps because people don't actually care much about the euro but they do care about preserving their wealth ? If you have a choice between putting your money in a jurisdiction where you can have any portion of it confiscated over night or somewhere else entirely what do you choose ?

DislikedMax, interesting post, but gaps in stock trading are different. The liquidity is an order of magnitude lower, the market closes every day, and the stock value can at any time go to zero in case of bankruptcy.
The gaps over weekend on Forex are an overreaction to the noise in the news. No matter how significant that noise seems in the heat of the moment, it cannot change the trend, that has been forming for days and weeks and months. This applies only to highly saturated forex pairs - certainly, I wouldn't talk about gaps on Zimbabwean dollar
This is not a myth, but a highly lucrative opportunity that does not happen too often. EUR/GBP is even a safer bet if you still doubt, since GBP behaviour is coupled to that of EUR - the gap on that pair is easier to close no matter where the USD heads in the short termIgnored
