i could not care less about the individual not liking it. whether you like or not. you were forced to learn something. and it may take 25 or more to realize it. but the country as a whole benefits, when there is 0% unemployment in the 18/20 year old population. and when they learn a skill with responsibility.

I don't know if that's unemployment. It's really living on the teat of the government which is funded by taxpayers.

But it would beat food stamps.

You should always avoid a fight...always swallow your pride or run if you can, you health is never worth the hassle. Our kru (coach) gets really pissed off when people tell him they got into fights...he basically climbs in the ring with you afterwards and kicks your ass as punishment.

Also, thinking to yourself "yeah, just keep talking fool...I could stomp you into the ground in seconds" is good enough for me...don't need to follow through if I can get out of it somehow.

As for Switzerland...things are mostly working out because our political parties have to work together. We don't just have 2 power blocks, we have 20ish parties and none has absolute power. It's also a direct democracy, so the people have an actual say versus the US for example where you elect politicians who then sell out to corporate sponsors (before quitting politics and joining the very companies they represented...instead of the people).

We have a TON of close minded people in Switzerland though, equal to the US rednecks...mostly because those fools never travel abroad. At the same time a lot of things are great:

- Salaries: I made CHF35/hr serving drinks during weddings while in college...or earned CHF85/hr as a snowboard instructor.

- Healthcare: I now live in the UK, but I turn into a medical tourist to Switzerland whenever I have something serious (like getting my wisdom teeth pulled).

- Education: Public schools are mostly just as good as private schools...good education levels, and well paid teachers.

- Social security: If I lose my job in CH I get 80% of my previous salary until I find a new job...and soon they'll replace this with a government guaranteed minimum salary. Yes, socialism...but it works great and they still had an CHF800m surplus last year. Also, when the crisis kicked off and companies said they'll make a ton of people redundant the government asked them retain those people, but make them work only 80% (while of course only paying them 80%). The government then paid those people 18% out of the 20% they lost...which was still cheaper than having to pay full unemployment benefits...great system!

- Drug regulations: Instead of throwing everyone and their dog in jail for smoking pot or taking drugs they actually help people. If you sign up for a program you get drugs for free...and it's very successful, a ton of people are clean after 1-2yrs. Burglary rates went down as a consequence.

- Safety: It's ridiculously safe...I never felt unsafe once while living there. Hell, I'd feel comfortable walking around with a money suit and wouldn't fear a robbery

- VERY competitive industry: Specialist industry, often quite crisis resistant...like Swatch for example...or Ulysse Nardin...or Roche. There's a good reason the Economist rates it as the world's most competitive country when it comes to business.

- Unemployment: What unemployment?

Having said all that, for the job I do I can't actually work there before reaching director level...one more step to go and I'll go back though

....and soon the US can also compete with North Korea with those amazing Military Parades ...just perfect ...rules, rigid discipline and everybody young subsidized by the public sector..instead of entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation....sounds excellent very much like the old Soviet Union...and to complete the deal will need to create a few wars every now and then (wherever really) to pump and keep that army on form and keep those big arms and war related mega corporations & industries happy and everybody paying higher taxes to keep the system going ... sounds like paradise ...

nobody is talking about a militarized state, that is extreme.. just a forced skill leaned to discourage social reliance. 2 years or so, can teach things some kids dont get from home. and when they are raising their children in the future. it would give them a alternative view. it doesn't have to be military. they are just already set up.. 6/8 weeks of basic training and mandatory college is ok also. whatever it takes to teach a skill..

Then just cut military spending and send kids to school for free up until at least college.

Even Castro can give free university.

I know I was just being sarcastic....

Gotta better idea: what about a free line of credit for young entrepreneurs, new small business and start-ups with the 0 interest for the 1st couple of years and with the same conditions, low interest and flexibility the big bastards got from the Government and the FED the last few years but this time focused in creating and pushing for more business, employment generation and innovation.

Simply creating a fair playing field for everybody instead of only protecting and subsidizing the mismanagement of some big bastards... I think that will get a lot better bang for the public buck ...

Say what you will, but I believe EDUCATION is the key driver of economic success. Everything else will fall in line if you promote education instead of dumbing down the nation (6k year old earth, the "arch" was real, evolution is nonsense, the climate isn't changing, etc.).

Just imagine how much better the US would be off if they spent all those trillions in never-ending wars to educate kids instead...you could have wiped out all student loans and made sure everyone can afford a proper education. Instead they started pointless wars that don't solve the root issues, and young people are either without a proper education or sit on so much student debt they need to work 10-20yrs to break even.

I went to a private uni in Switzerland...one that claims to be "the best in the world" in its field. I paid c. CHF3k/semester for that privilege. My best friend's a German guy who grew up in Asia and he paid a grand total of over CHF250k for the same thing because he didn't get any government subsidies. I would have never been able to afford it without government help...but guess what, once I'm back the Swiss government will get more tax revenues from me than if they hadn't sponsored a large chunk of my education, so it balances out. It's just a more long term approach
