Anyone having problems connecting to the VTSystems charting server? It started acting up around 4AM EDT this morning and as of 9:30AM EDT it still won't connect.

same here ... but I'm on the demo. i guess signing up for LIVE service won't help?

If they did, it will be interesting to see how Open Trades will be resolved.

I'm presently short USD/CAD and from another feed, It's going my way so I would be happy if they let it go but obviously If I were Losing, I would want it back.

Now where did I put that cake? I'm hungry.

They seem to be back up now. They usually do this crap on fridays.

i also have some problems with the data of counter AUD/USD , can not use theit chart !

I've found them pretty good of late. I much prefer the graphics and flexibility to MT4 but I agree that the connectivity on the Demo leaves something to be desired which seems strange as this should act as a primary marketing tool to entice users to migrate to real accounts.

I trade actively on the CMS VT real platform ( different servers I presume) and I have never had a problem. I noticed the Non-Farm Payroll spiked quickly led by Fundamental traders + Corporates who have immediate access to the announcements.

I have not traded major US news but if I went this way I'd probably opt for a small Oanda account devoted to this and a Trade-The-News facility and upgrade to Bloomberg out of profits.

Some of the members of my trading team at forexfantasy.com use VT Trader for the charts and trade with a different broker. I use CMS and have had only a few problems with them. I have never lost any real money with them. The Demo server is flakey, especally on Fridays, but what do you want for free without any time limits. Also there are other dealers who use VT and are not CMS. I am doing research now to find who uses CMS servers. (some do) It is hard to find who does and who does not. There are some good threads (2 titled CMS) that hashes this all to death.

Hi Lou,
Your wireles setup shoudn't be a problem.

Set up the chart the way you want it with Edit Indicator properties showing etc {if that's the way you want it}

Hit Print Screen on keyboard {usually above Home, Page Up keys}
It looks like nothing happens but you just copied your Screen to the clipboard.

Open an image editor, MS Paint will do. New Image and Paste {ctrl + v}

Mark up/crop the chart the way you want it {hide taskbar acct #'s etc} and then resize the image to 600 pixels max dimension. {This way it will not stretch the thread so wide you have to scroll to read it.

Save the image in a folder, I named one Chart Images so it's easy to find.

Now over to FF.
Below the Post Text box
there is an Attach Files Button. Click it.
Browse to the Image you saved.
Click Upload and wait for it to complete.
Click Close this window if you are only posting one attachment.
*Note* If you post 2 images on the same post they will both be reduced to icons.

That should get you there. Please note bmp files are huge. gif or jpg are probably better.

hth, if not, let me know where you get stuck.
try a couple of tests to the VT discussion and once we get you setup, you can delete them if you wish.

All went well on this part ... ( for those with wireless keyboards, GE brand, you must engage the LOCK button and see the airport light turn from red to green ) then using the print screen button.

BUT

The image, a bmp was too large and was rejected. I have no idea how to make it a gif or jpg

More help needed ..

If you don't have the option to "Save As" jpeg or gif, you may have to download another image editor.

I use Screen Hunter myself. I find it very easy and quick to use. I took just about every screenshot in the VT Trader Help Manual using it. Then used GIMP when needed to draw on them, etc.

However, here's another screen capture app one of my collegues mentioned was pretty good. I've never tried it personally, but it may be worthwhile - it's free too.

Disconnects and VT crashing have been the biggest complaints from users. Every broker has disconnects, and MT4 handles them very well. When there is a disconnect MT4 sends a ping every 30 secs until a connection is made before trying to log in. Usually reconnection is less than a minute. The problem is with the software, and hopefully there will be changes made to VT and its servers so trading will be more stable.

I think both VT and CMS are aware of this Rich. Whether it be Software or Server problems I know that I lose connection now only once a week when the Server goes down on Sunday while CMS is still Closed for Business & after another couple of Brokers I use have Opened for Business.
Arbitrage protection I guess.

Other than that it runs pretty well 24/6 for me unless I totally bog it down running heavy strat tests. [knock on wood]


Are you still experiencing routine disconnects?
How mant instances of any TS do you normally have running/attached

VT has been quite stable this last week so hopefully changes have been made. I mentioned the MT4 ping since it could be adapted to VT.

The next release of VT Trader will include some more changes in the connectivity protocols.

The single LED for connection status has been replaced with 3 separate LED's each of which corresponds to a service (trading, charting, streaming price quotes). Also, the ugly reconnection dialog window that locked you out of VT Trader while it was attempting to reconnect has been removed and replaced by a balloon popup window that is MUCH less intrusive and more informative for the user.

Additionally, over the next few releases several more additional connectivity/reconnection logic changes (along with more logging functionality) will likely be introduced making the logic and error reporting more robust all around.

Sounds like we are pretty close to next release.

I'm sure you already know this, but you can always cancel the upgrade process when prompted if you're not ready to upgrade your install. Eventually though you will have to upgrade. We're in the process of implementing features in VT Trader and in the server-side software that will force users to upgrade to the next release that we consider a "critical" release to ensure proper compatibility; Any users that do not upgrade to that release will not be able to connect to their broker's servers until they upgrade.

However, VT Trader 1.8.1 (the next release) I do not believe will be the "critical" release referenced. The critical release will likely be the release following 1.8.1 (currently called 1.8.5) or possibly even the release after 1.8.5.

Any idea when the next upgrade will take place? Also

What are the steps one needs to take to save a certain chart set up so that charts dont get erased during the upgrade?

One more thing. Has anyone looked at the Fib Arc tool lately.. No Arc !!
