I am thinking about leasing a server directly in LD5.
For example this provider offers a dedicated Dell PowerEdge Server starting from £300pm.
I'm not insane; my mother had me tested.

i don't know, i am not a customer so i can't test it... but i expect it to be below 1ms.

AFAIK you need a cross-connect if you want to be <1ms - not sure of LMax does that for private clients. Theoretically, the fastest possible way to trade would be a colocated server cross-connected to the matching engine and sponsored access (=bypassing margin checks which add to latency too - but you need a MTF member to grant you that, both is probably not happening).

i was talking strictly about network ping latency to the LMAX gateway, of coarse the complete order->execution->confirmation latency is something different.

Unless you are wanting to control the specific hardware that you are using on-site, it would be much cheaper to lease a VPS or even co-locate a server with a dedicated server provider near the datacenter you want to trade, as the cost of the server (which will include managed uptime, hardware, multiple redundant internet connections, electric, etc) would be cheaper than just leasing the line separately and having to maintain your own hardware and redundancy. You would probably need 1-2 other full time people to manage such hardware, as you can only focus on so many things at once (either developing and managing the trading system, or the hardware).

Maybe a day will come where that won't be necessary. But until then, managed server / vps is the way to go to be as close to the exchanges as possible in a cost effective way.

I think 100ms more or less is not the key point in non-HFQ trading - much more important is the spread. Entering a trade at a moment where the spread is 2 pips, as to a normal of 0.4 pips, is a high risk entry trading a low time frame. You are already 2 pips down at the entry. In today´s noisy market, price and spread fluxate during 1 sec time due to crossing orders - a delay in an order entry might in fact be a good entry, to be in sync with the tiny pull-backs, place a LMT order at minus 0.5 pips fill-or-kill-and you are likely to get the fill. Such entry is a tiny pull back entry. Fill-or-kill orders might have priority over other orders, depending of the exchange - the exchange is after all a business wanting to have FILLS.

Can somebody explain how is it possible to have 0 spread? If you have bid and ask at the same exact price, why those orders are not automatically matched by LMAX exchange?

Marketmakers are not matched against each other - only marketmaker to client and client to client orders are matched.

This never happened to me,max spread i've seen on euro/usd is 1.6 Please note that Armada markets uses LMAX as liquidity provider and they add their own spread markup.
