I do go against the trend but if so, like I said to someone else this morning, wait for a retest, then if its just a pullback you won't be in a bad trade then if it goes again the way you thought, you can go into the trade then. If it goes without you without a retest don't worry about it, its better to miss a trade than to lose money.

What's the general consensus on how long to wait until the market sorts itself out after news? I tend to wait around 10 mins and then look for genuine signals

44 (m5) candles to get from the pivot to todays low......3 to get back up to the pivot...lol.....the power of news releases!!

If its high risk, most say to wait around 15mins before and after, but Yelena usually trades the news. She says the 5min candle straight after the news tells you which way its going, for a max 20minutes then it reverses, she does well at it but I haven't tried it yet, but she's the timing expert

I mentioned earlier on how I have the ATR indi on my M15 chart so I don't clutter my M5 chart, and Olivia explained how the ATR works. See the pic below.....today's expected ATR is 73 pips....and so far we have covered 71.6 pips.

So to go lower....or higher than todays extremes, I would need a pretty strong signal.

It's just one of things to bear in mind when trading

Here's the perfect example of the retest I was talking about. I know this was through news but this is what to look for as the safest way to trade counter trend: Price looks to have bounced off the pivot and we have a signal counter trend, but it comes back down to retest it and then back up again, I would take the second signal not the first.

The problem when it comes to news trading is often not the the system, trader, timing and so on but the broker. Slippage, requotes, high spread, problem to get in and/or out of trades and so on. I used to trade the news at Oanda years ago. Back then it was no problem but it is more or less impossible now. At Oanda it is the high spread at news that is the problem. Other brokers "makes" other problems.

What broker do you use Yelena?

Definitely agree with you about the brokers thats why I haven't bothered with it.
