If you were looking at trading indicies then you should consider the european versus the states indicies. The Dax versus most others is a good setup.

Better results still can be achieved using the sectors against each other in the indicies, this really helps with diversification as well. You do this by measuring all the sectors in say the FTSE. Then if banks have slipped say -5% and mining are +8% then you arb the two, but first you need to know how to measure that difference.

But let me tell you that this is not something the amature can walk into and get right very easily. For a start the whole point of stat arb is to be netural in the market such that you are not impacted overall if the market shotts off in any direction. Most retail investors would get this wrong and still be exposed, why?

because first you must pick the right securities, secondly you must adjust for financial balance and third you need to constantly adjust for volatility. If you don't do all of these it will burn you.

finally, these are not get rich quick schemes, the are low yield, slow burn and take lots of processing power and decent algos to achieve.

Your time would be better spent perfecting S&R trading...

I am still in my short trade.. for me eu should not cross 25-30.. lets see..may be the gu will take it up bcoz of the good data..

Was just curious to know about the models u were working on. Basically m into arb. only. very little into speculative trades.. not looking for get rich quick kind of thing, m happy with the monthly returns around same as many here claims to get it on daily basis...
