Todays EU trades so far. The first trade was from just after market open this morning, 10am my time. The current trade is at +32 so we'll see where NY market takes it.

Entries are the same as always.

The second Matrix is there for testing purposes

Edit: I should mention that the entries are not on the red vertical line, but on the next candle. I did it that way because it's impossible to see the wicks on the candles once the red line is there

Yes, the second Matrix is from Xaphod

I didn't take the short because the pa resembled a bull flag to me, and there was no bear candle opened clear of the yellow ma. Having said that, I was watching closely and ready to close the long and reverse the trade if the next candle had have opened clear of the yellow ma.

Not just that, its always been part of his rules he doesn't take the trade if it doesn't open clear of the MA.

ok my mistake then; i thought signal candle only needed to close below MA, not open also below;

and what is "clear": 1 pip 2 pips 3 pips 4 pips.....?

His heiken ashi mustn't be touching the ma I think thats what he looks for.

Here are 4 trades (white lines) from this morning on the Dow (US30) and why they were and were not taken. I use a slightly different matrix (see my previous posts) but the results are fairly similar (the signals tend to get generated on the same bars across many instruments or very close to it but I prefer it).

If I'm correct all these signals would have been normal Symphonie's trades (matrix same colour, HH, Stox, Trendline and above/below yellow MA - I don't use that one, but that's just me).

1) Long 12784;
Extra confirmations (going down on the chart) for my trades were:
A. Arrow (backtesting on the Dow suggests that the Arrow MUST be on the signal candle)
B. The M15 matrix is also Long (blue rectangle); the M30 & H1 matrixes are grey (mixed) but at least they are not against a long signal (red)
C. The M30 & H1 Stox (white & yellow stright lines) are rising with plenty of air above them
D. Last but not least, the RSI (green line in last window) is above 50 for extra strength/ooomph.
Close at 12844 at R1 (green line) for +70

2) Short 12824
A. same
B. M15 matrix now mixed (grey) AND M30 matrix now Blue (Long); this suggest extra caution and the trade might not yield 70 points again as I'm going against the 30M trend.
C. same
D. same
The trade showed +22 (inc. spread) but I didn't get anything out of it as the retracement took my stop at b/e

3) Long 12815
Trade not taken because the arrow wasn't there on the signal candle

4) Short 12808
A. same
B. now M15/M30/H1 are all mixed (grey) so I am open to short & long trades in equal measure
C. same
D. same
So far this trade has shown +18 & stop has been moved to b/e already for 2 reasons:
.over an hour+ in this trade and it is not moving much
.Wall Street is about to open 'properly' in 10 minutes and I would rather not be a sitting target in drawdown at that time; it's much safer to close and re-open once we are 10/20 minutes into that session.
s/l hit at b/e as I type so out for 0

when rj took long trade the signal hh candel was not clear of the MA too... so why rj take 1 trade and not the other?

He has said that he took the trades on the candle after the vertical line, so yes it was clear. RJ doesn't deviate from his rules at all you will not find one single trade where he has, discipline must be his middle name

sorry to ask again but i want to make sure I/everybody understand: you wait for candel after signal to open, and the open must be clear of MA (ok ) but do u then take trade straight away at open or wait for close of that candel too and make sure price does not touch/go thru MA during the 5 minutes?
thanks in advance i know you busy
oh and when you select vertical line in mt4, select 'draw object as background' in "common" tab so you always see candels fully where they open/close

Hi Patti,

There are 3 things that you can use:

1) the Trendline indicator that is part of the Symphonie set; it's the flat red line just above the candles during the consolidation period; notice how the price never Closed above on any M5 candles, telling you to stay in.

2) i also use a what's called a PAC (Price Action Channel in yellow) but this is not part of Symphonie; it's made of two 5 Period Smoothed MA, one set to 'high' the other to 'low' to create the yellow channel that you can see; again, although the price violated the channel to the upside, it never closed above it.
Also notice that once the price Closed well below the PAC (blue arrow), the trend down resumed: 1 candle later we had a new Symphonie Sell signal (white line) and that combined with the PAC breach can be used as a possible re-entry point to add to your position or re-enter if you have been stopped out earlier.

3) a very simple 13 Period RSI (Relative Strength Index) with a 50 line in the middle (separation between strength & weakness); notice how it tried 3 times to get above 50 but didn't succeed (another indication of weakness and possible down move ressumption).

See my previous post about other possible 'usefull' tips but if Symphonie is working fine for you in its bog-standard form then don't fiddle with it: plenty of brain power from Evaluator/rj/ohammond/many others has gone into it already and one runs the risks of over complicating things (read 'making them worse') & bastardising something that is obviously already good.

I have these 'extras' in place as I generaly trade much longer timeframes where whipsaws are less frequent and I needed stuff to filter out some of the more obvious dud trades.

Could you tell me how do you select SL and TP ( if that depends what is maximum, minimum level ). How do you choose, especially SL.

SL: Symphonie says ... at least above/below the previous high/low and if that is too far away to give you a decent r/r then don't take the trade

TP: Symphonie says ... a nearby Pivot/S/R line or a change of colour in Matrix's top line

Read this PDF from RJ (I'm sure that he won't mind me posting it despite the recent bollocking lol).

Also, as has been said many times, go back to the first page of this thread where you have paragraph about Entry Strategy (SL), Exit Strategy (TP) + look for.....

Hello guys,

I've gone through the thread and I really like Techobyte way of trading the system. First day for me using his methodology and +51 pips collected in 3 trades. Could have been even more....
