Can algos even trade off of news? Wouldn't they need humans to create the price action to trigger buys or sells?

They are scripted programs and can be programmed to react to just about anything not just limited to price action or technicals.

Hell they could even react to Merkel gets laid by Bernanke if you wanted them to.

Not a valid shooting star unless it is at the top of an uptrend. Now maybe an inverted hammer, but with all of the negative news out, would be skeptic of acting on the retrace. In addition, GDP numbers could possibly spike it to that level.

Why US Unemployment Numbers May Suck --

One of the brightest spots of econ activity in the US is the Oil and Gas industry despite Obama's best efforts to kill it --

With a global slow down in progress energy has fallen -- oil now trading around and below $80 per barrel... as energy prices fall it becomes less and less feasible to extract the energy, leading to layoffs in one of the few sectors that has been hiring --

US weekly Unemployment claims in 12 minutes -- NFP next week...

If this doesn't show up this month... look for it --- its coming --- NFP above 400,000 next week or the month after --

Clear rejection at daily S2 (which we rarely breach). Planning to buy at 385, targeting ~470 (tomorrow).

May be true, but the auto industry is booming. Here in Michigan they have cut the week shut down that they normally have every year because of high product demand. And that is covering everything from Detroit (manufacters) to Kalamazoo (parts suppliers) my city (Battle Creek) has been on mandatory overtime since January!
