There does not appear to be anything wrong with the chart, however it is impossible to tell for sure as relevant info is cut out of the chart. Post a full screen shot so I can tell what the chart TF is and what TFs the indicators are running on.

Yep you'are right nothing wrong. It was a bug with metatrader while changing settings.

Btw, is it possible to have an alert when the TVi cross 0 ?
And also to have a alert only when 4 different timeframes have the same symphonie signal (with 3 or 4 lights each), I mean something like the Dash but only when 4 TFs line up but it doesn't matter if it's a symphonie signal with 4 or 3 bars for each one of them.

Hi Xaphod,

Thanks a lot for your STSI, nice work!

I wonder if you could add a customizable sound when the 4 "lights" of STSi aligns.

Trading with multiple pairs, having a sound for each one, would be a helpful tool.

Untested! The popup alert and the sound alert do not work together. One plays over the other. That's how MT4 does it.

On my way to found a exit strategy I have use this for now many wins for only a few lossers (I don't like the pain of loosing, I prefer win more often but less):

- 5M chart
- STSi Tape M30 defaults settings except CCi 50 (after backtesting only, it seems to work as well with the standard cci set to 20)
- TMA bands with ATRmutiplier to 2.5

Enter: on symphonie full 4 bars signal
Exit: Opposite TMA band (you can "trail TP" till the end of the session, no more)
SL: last (big) swing high/low
Take trades only during London session

the DD might be big (that the trouble so do not use big lots, if a more experienced trader could comment on this I really much apprecied).

I'm testing this on live account but it's not enough forward tested so please only use demo account !!

Results (between 24 May and 8 June):

EU
13 wins 0 lost
EJ
14 wins 0 lost
GU
23wins 3 lost
AU
22win 0 lost

I have attached a exemple:
Green is entry
Orange is exit
Pink is SL (no trailing stop)

Please Xaphod, give me your opinion on this, because for now results are good, even too good so my guess is this system might fail... especially because sometimes SL is bigger than TP. What do you think ?

I really insist that this is a "wanna be" system. I try to found a efficient exit strategy because the one from Evaluator doesn't suit me well. I think TMA bands are maybe good TP targets...

If the results you posted are from live or demo trading, then they are pretty awesome.

Yes, it may be temporary. Who can say? If one does a lot of EA backtesting in strategy tester, one will notice that many setups will only work for a limited period. That does not mean one cannot profit from them. If one gets on early enough and gets out when the setup starts to fail, you can make some profit and move on.

So, just apply reasonable risk and money management and you should do well. If the setup starts to fail, be prepared to adapt it if possible or to move on.

If you are lucky, you may have figured out a stable system that will keep working for a long time.

With the win/loss ratio you currently have, a SL sometimes greater than the TP should not be a problem (within reason, of course).

Edit:
If the results are from a visual backtest, then they are pretty flawed.

 

  1. The STSi indicator uses the goldminer indicator which may repaint a few bars.
  2. The M30 indicators on the M5 time-frame will keep 'repainting' up to 6 M5 bars, as they represent an open M30 candle. Add the repainting of the goldminer indicator on M30 to that.
  3. The TMA is a big repainter and is supposed to be evaluated at the current bar. The history does not accurately represent what it looked like in real time.

Therefore the only way to backtest such a strategy is in the visual strategy tester with an EA that is capable of handling multiple time-frames.

Yes, that is how it is coded. That is how I wanted it. You can modify your copy to do whatever you want.

Thanks for the indies...., they are awesome. The are probably one of the best I have ever come accross. I am still in the testing phase....., So far so good. I will be posting results in the near future.

Indeed the trouble is the fact M30 repainted on a M5 chart. Is it possible to fix this trouble ? Does the Dash as the same trouble if I select an alert on M5/30 or a M5/60 signal ?

The TMA repainted indeed BUT if the symphonie signal is good the repainting just put your TP even futher.

Most indicators are based on the candle data. They merely provide a different perspective to the data. It is beneficial to understand the difference between an open candle and a closed candle.

Do a proper backtest on a significant amount of data before going live.
Use conservative money management.

It is not a problem. It is a fact of life. No indicators can see into the future.

Open a M5 chart and a M30 chart side by side with the indicators and trade that. That is essentially what one is doing with MTF indicators, with the added benefit of not actually having to open up 2 charts.

Not if you use Alert.OnBarClose. Non of these indicators can foretell what price a candle will close at before it closes.
