The slope will change in its strength but not in its angle. In other words if it is above 0 it is above 0. As it continues to move up the bars represent the angle upward so they increase as the angle increases. This is what lets us know how strong the move is. The key though is the whether the angle is moving up or down. The reason I like the indicator so much is it catches the subtle change in direction that you dont see by eyeballing the chart. For example we think price is ranging but it will show a slight angle down which gives us the hint that it is going to go that way. We are prepared to trade down when others are sitting and wondering which direction to go next. That along with it being below the weekly open and then the crossing of the pivot is what sets this system apart from the rest. We are in when others are wondering, is this it?? That is the advantage the slope gives you. That slight angle down we see now, that later will show bigger bars in a back test as the angel increases. We catch the new direction quickly. If we are wrong and it switches on us, well we see price go above the pivot telling us something maybe wrong. It is this quickness in seeing these subtleties that give this system its uniqueness and ability.

Ok thanks I got it, I have to read up on how the slope was developed. So the best way I can of to backtest is to use a simulator. 1 sim running on H4 and one daily chart open to see the overall trend.

For example we now have new monthly pivot lines. If the euro decides to go up we will be one of the first to know because. Price will go above the weekly, then monthly pivots and the slope will angle up and the bars will be above the 0 line. When others wonder how long or strong the move will be, we will know. It went above 4, we know there is one good trade here. Look it went above 8 this is going to last a while. OR it hit 4 and then went below, temporary, dont do another buy. That is very powerful information. When others are guessing and arguing fundamentals, etc. we will know what to do next. (barring outside interference from banks and big boys which no indicator can tell you)

Be interesting to know how the simulator would show the slope accurately over a period time. Interesting. Let us know your results.

Will do. I will have 2 sim running at the same time in 2 different MT4, one for daily one for H4.

Not to be picky, but there are charts in the manual #6, where the Slope Indicator is high-lighted to show examples of past, ranging markets.

So you must forgive us for getting the impression that we are able to look back on charts for these readings; to some small degree, they must be useful?

NB et al,

I have checked on this thread once or twice a month since you first started it. Even though I downloaded the system last year I have not used your system heretofore because I have not trusted pivot points or even s/r to the degree that others do. However, your Modified TMA Slope is a game changer. I gave up on the version on Al's thread but, I see great potential here. Tonight is the first I have seen it so I am eager to try it out when the markets open again. The work you and the others have done is deeply appreciated.

Could it be possible to just have an indicator that display only the column result in blue.

We can place it on the chart on the right down corner, we get this precious information always under the eyes.

There is a whole section set aside for 10.2 development. There is so much stuff going on that I cant even keep up with it all. I would recommend getting familiar with it because I will be spending more and more time there. Just a tremendous amount of support and some of the best people to work with.
There is a whole section set aside for developing 10.2 All the indis have been either developed or adjusted for 10.2 by the programmers there. They are familiar with the system and its requirements. So check there.

Yes that is true but I also had to explain how the system works and I cant do that with just present bars. Again the higher the TF the less problem it is going to be. That is why I love the daily reads so much, the changes from bar to bar are minimal. So from that perspective it is not as much of a problem. However, I need to make sure you understand the indi and how to use it properly with the system.

To me there is a difference between repainting and updating. Any indi that uses MA and any kind of math will update with time. It is just the nature of the beast. Of course the bars will get bigger in the past because they are getting bigger in the present. That is just the indi updating the information because that is what MA do. They move with price.

Repaint is when an indicator gives a signal, takes off the screen and then later puts it back up again. MA crosses that use those buy sell arrows are famous for that. You here the bell SELL SELL and the arrow on the screen and then come back later and find price reversed, the arrow gone and you wonder what the >>>>>>>>>>>>. Then you come back later and price went back down again and there is that SELL arrow again. That is repaint.

So for me repaint and updating info are two different things. To me the use of the word repaint is abused the vast majority of time. If you understand the indi and what it is doing, repaint will not be an issue with you. The slope indi does not put a bar up, take it off and then put a bar back up again. However, it does show that price is either strengthening or weaking by the up and down movement of the bar. That is what I need to know. So attempts to have a non repaint slope is futile. I really dont want that I want to know if it strengthening or weakening so I want it to update.

Only got up to this page so far, but am replying to this in case I miss further along that you solved this.

I use brokers charts with NY close because they give 5 true daily candles.

A broker using London close will display a small Sunday candle, which is not logical, because the market only trades Forex for 5 complete days.

As for lower timeframes, where a broker's server is located will affect the 4 hour charts but will not affect any other of the timeframes lower than daily (in Metatrader).

But when the slope is realtime around the 0-Line (little above or little down) the angle can change after updating/ repainting (little down or little above).

To address this issue, I make a "movie" of the sim results running on different times frames in MT4. It's pretty straightforward on a Mac and I assume it can be done on a pc. Once the files are made, you can scroll through them simultaneously. It's a very good approximation of MTF sim results.

interesting so instead of looking at the sim while it is running you are watching it running as a video clip? Is it a sim I can find or is it proprietary.

Basically I setup the sim in MT4 and I let it run for some predetermined time frame (e.g. 1 week). I do this on 3 time frames: H4, H1 and M15.

On the Mac, you can use quicktime to make a movie of what's on the screen.

So you setup the simulator, and walk away for about 45 minutes, come back and save the file.

The only disadvantage is that you can't use the cross hairs to get the exact values in the video. But you can use another screen for this.

It's totally free on a Mac. Maybe it's the same on a PC.

At the time it is at 0, it is at 0 in real time. That is what you need to know. What it looks like 1,2,3, or 4 days later is meaningless information and doesnt help you in trading. When it is at now 0 you know it is not time to trade. So you wait for price to make a commitment. Why you would even bother when it is at 0 makes no sense to me. Go on to another currency.
