Michaels Stores draws up IPO plans. Michaels Stores, the largest arts-and-crafts retailer in North America, is reportedly intending to carry out an IPO. The listing would come six years after Michaels was taken private for over $6B by a consortium of P-E firms that included Blackstone Group (BX) and Bain. Michaels has hired investment banks and plans to file a registration document in April.
U.K. in talks to sell third of RBS holding. The British government is in negotiations to sell up to a third of its 82% stake in RBS (RBS) to Abu Dhabi, the BBC reports, although sources caution a deal isn't imminent. Based on RBS's market cap of $49.8B, the deal could be worth around $13.5B.
EU probes United Tech's $16.5B Goodrich purchase. The European Commission has opened an in-depth investigation into United Technologies' (UTX) $16.5B acquisition of Goodrich (GR) amid worries that the purchase could hurt competition for engine controls and AC power generators. United Tech remains publicly sanguine, saying it's confident it will close the deal by mid-year despite the EC extending the deadline for a decision until August.
1.87M jobs at risk as highways deadline looms. The GOP last night pulled a House vote on a 90-day extension of funding for U.S. highways and transit projects, which expires on Saturday, after it became clear it wouldn't pass. Democrats want the House to vote on a 2-year, $109B Senate measure that was approved this month. Failure to extend the funding could affect up to 1.87M jobs.
News Corp. hacking may have extended to NDS. News Corp. (NWS) might have another hacking scandal on its hands: a BBC program alleges that set-top software firm NDS, which is 49%-owned by News Corp. and is due to be acquired by Cisco (CSCO), cracked the smart card codes of ONdigital, a one-time rival to News Corp.-affiliated BSkyB (BSYBY.PK). NDS then gave the codes to pirates, who used them to make thousands of counterfeit smart cards, with the subsequent illegal viewing contributing to ONdigital's bankruptcy.
Rio Tinto mulls sale of $2.6B diamond ops. Rio Tinto (RIO) is considering selling its diamond assets because the mines may no longer fit its strategy. The unit could be worth nearly $2.6B.
Enbridge, Enterprise plan U.S.-Canada pipleines. Enbridge (ENB) and Enterprise Products Partners (EPD) are planning to build new pipelines that will transport up to 850K barrels of crude oil a day from Canada to refineries along the Gulf Coast by mid-2014. The pipelines will compete with TransCanada's (TRP) troubled Keystone project, if it ever gets approved.
AIG predicts $5B-$10B profit for taxpayer from bailout. The taxpayer could end up making a profit of $5B-$10B once AIG (AIG) repays the estimated $45B it still owes the government for its bailout, CEO Bob Benmosche told Jim Cramer yesterday. In March alone, the Treasury has gained back over $14.6B of its investment in AIG, including $6B from the sale of shares.
EPA to seek CO2 limits on new power stations. The EPA will propose, possibly today, the first ever standards for limiting CO2 emissions from new electricity plants, Reuters reports. The rules are likely to be politically divisive, and could hurt companies that generate most of their power from coal, such as Southern Co (SO) and American Electric Power (AEP).
Symantec ends Huawei JV over U.S. fears. Symantec (SYMC) is expected to complete the dissolution of its joint venture with Huawei Technologies in the next two weeks. The New York Times reports that Symantec is concerned that the JV would prevent it from gaining access to classified U.S. government information about cyber-threats.
Hirai to retain control of Sony's TV ops. Incoming Sony (SNE) CEO Kazuo Hirai is to maintain direct charge of the company's ailing TV division, indicating the priority he's placing on turning it around. Hirai has already pulled off such a trick with Sony's PlayStation business.
Apple under attack Down Under over 4G claims. Australia's consumer watchdog says Apple (AAPL) made misleading claims about 4G capability when promoting its new iPad in the country. Regulators plan to apply to the Federal Court in Melbourne tomorrow on the allegation that Apple breached consumer law.

EURUSD Trades Near Key Resistance Cluster Around 1.3360!

1- The long-term bear channel resistance around 1.3350/70 area.
2- 38.2% Fibonacci retracement of August 2011 highs to January 2012 lows at 1.3360.
3- The neckline of double top pattern on 4 hour at 1.3365.
4- The low of Sept 2011 1.3361 , the first monthly candle that closed below EMA 50.
5- Daily RSI touched the 60 level, suggests possible reversal , a trend continuation, a break below the 60 level would give the pair strong bearish momentum..
Well, A rejection from this level probably would test the neckline 1.3000, a break below 1.3290 is supposed to add strong bearish tune to the pair but losing 1.3190 definitely would test/ break 1.3000.
A clear break below 1.3000 would confirm the head and shoulders patterns and it would test 1.2500 levels very soon , that would be a trend continuation for long term trend..
If however the market breaks above 1.3365, the area around 1.3800 is suggested , according to monthly EMA 50 , a monthly close above 1.3361 - a few days left - would test the area around 1.3800 high of Nov 2011 , around this level as I said we have also 61.8 retracement of late Aug high and Jan low around 1.3800..

Overnight Developments

1. Global stocks this morning are mostly higher with the Euro Stoxx 50 up +0.20% and Jun S&Ps up +0.20 of a point. The dollar index slipped to a 3-week low and most commodities gained with Apr gold at a 1-week high before U.S. reports on house prices and consumer confidence later this morning. European stocks received a boost after the Mar French consumer confidence indicator unexpectedly rose +5 to 87, stronger than expectations of unchanged at 82 as it matched its 15-month high from July 2011. Stocks also were boosted from comments made late yesterday by ECB President Draghi who said governments should continue to take "decisive measures" after the ECB's liquidity measures helped restore investor confidence. Bunds rallied and the euro fell back from a 3-1/2 week high against the dollar on slack demand for European sovereign debt after Italy sold 3.82 billion euros of bonds, below the maximum target of 4 billion euros, while Spain sold 2.58 billion eu ros of debt, below the maximum target of 3 billion euros. The British pound rose to a 4-1/4 month high against the dollar after Mar U.K. CBI reported sales rose to 0, stronger than expectations of -5.

2. Asian stocks today closed mostly higher with Japan up +2.36%, China -0.32%, Australia +0.90%, SOuth Korea +1.23%, India +1.20%. Asian stocks rose after Fed Chairman Bernanke said accommodative monetary policy is still needed and Mar German business confidence unexpectedly gained, which improves the earnings outlook for Asian exporters. Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Index posted a 1-year high and recovered all of its losses from last year's earthquake crisis as $241 billion of reconstruction spending and BOJ efforts to devalue the yen provided a bullish backdrop for Japanese equities. Chinese stocks closed lower after Jan-Feb China industrial company profits fell -5.2% y/y, the first decline since 2009 as slowing exports and government measures to cool housing dampened earnings. South Korean stocks finished higher after Mar South Korea consumer confidence rose +1 to 101, a 4-month high.

The good thing about most crooks is that given enough time, especially in front of a microphone, they will incriminate themselves. You might not catch them on their original crime, but they often have that audacious combination of extreme hubris and a complete disregard for the truth, so eventually, they trip themselves up.

How do you feel about orange, Mr. Corzine? Like a head-to-toe orange jumpsuit with a side of shackles thrown in.

Let’s review.

On October 28, 2011, MF Global had an overdraft situation with JPMorgan Chase & Co. To correct this, Jon Corzine, authorized a $200 million payment from MF Global to JPMorgan in London. The problem is, the funds transferred represented customer funds and not MF Global’s. Remember, a sacred rule in brokerages is that customer funds must be strictly segregated from the firm’s money. Breaking such a rule on purpose could mean criminal charges. Oh yes, there’s also the small issue of $2billion in missing MF global funds.

Corzine claimed in his congressional testimony that he never authorized the use of customer funds to cover liabilities on behalf of the company. However, last Friday an email was discovered as part of a congressional investigation which copied “JC.” The email is from MF Global’s Edith O’Brien (Assistant Treasurer) … the woman named by Corzine in his congressional testimony as the person who should have known the details about the transfer of funds in question.

Uh, oh, JC, you broke the code.

Congress has carte blanche to lie to the American public. Unfortunately, JC, you’re no longer a Senator. And while Congress will work with the banksters to help perpetuate a culture of regulatory laxity and systemic fraud, there’s a whole lot of missing money to account for, and yes, it’s an election year.

You’ve now become a big liability to your friends in Congress, and it certainly didn’t help that MF was lobbying hard to hand out bonuses to its remaining employees last month.

CEO, Senator, Governor....Inmate? Here’s to putting the appropriate last stop at the end of your pedigree.

Are the USD bulls going to come back out of their paddocks after Bernanke shooed them in there yesterday?
I know there are still many Euro bears around. Just look at the latest COT report from the CFTC... or the lemmings position report from Oanda. The information is all there.

I hate 60 pip range days. It's almost time for those defibrillator paddles again.
