I closed my others trades as follows:

GBPUSD +39
AUDJPY +35
AUDUSD +10
EURUSD +40

Had closed,

Gold +100
EURJPY +100

Total Today: +324

By far my best day in Forex.

In the description field of the fib retracement tool (under fibo levels) just put the text you want to see, if you want to see the price next to it put for instance, TP1 %$

i would like to see if we'll not count in pips because this say nothing about performance measure and give someone who does not know it correctly a false picture.

for example:

short 1 Lot with partial closes 4 times with 0.25 Lot per partial close.

1st 25 pips
2nd 30 pips
3rd 45 pips
4th 70 pips

this does not mean that i made 170 pips.

i made (25 * 1/4 Lot) + (30 * 1/4 Lot) + (45 * 1/4 Lot) + (70 * 1/4) = 42.5 Pips.

Another example with only one partial close like TP1 and TP2 with 1 Lot again for easy calculation.

TP1 = 20 Pips (0.5 Lot)
TP2 = 35 Pips (0.5 Lot)

is not 55 Pips and done for the day. Yes the price did move 55 Pips overall, but it is 27.5 Pips i gained.

compare please:

20 Pips * 0.5 Lot = $100
35 Pips * 0.5 Lot = $175 total $275

but if you do not partial close and fully close at the same price with 55 Pips and 1 Lot you will have a total of $550.

so if you like to show the pips you made then divide the amount of pips with the fraction of partial closing lot.

the most better performance measure is, if you show it with % gain or with R.
for thos who don't know what R is, R is the unit of Risk involved per trade.

for example:

if you risk for one trade with an SL of 20 Pips x% of your account then your Risk unit is 1R. if you exit your trade with 60 Pips you earned 3R.
it doesn't matter how big or small your account is.


i made two trades today 22.1 Pips. sounds not much, but overall gained 2.13%. so what about if someone made 117 pips but that made only 0.6% gain on his account?
this is a real performance measure.

what i try to say is that i congrats everyone for his pipmonster gainings, but i like to see the real performance behind it.
think about it. a noob's eye will shine if he see a 1000 pip gain a week and when this means a 200% account gain i will say this is much overleveraged.
And if someone has a -13% DD with one order because of only -30 pip then this is much overlaveraged too.

So, according to you measure; if I have 10 position open and each positiong runs 100 pips is that 1000 pips for the day or only 100?

Example

Position 1 100 pips in profit.
Position 2 100 pips in profit.
Position 3 100 pips in profit.
Position 4 100 pips in profit.
Position 5 100 pips in profit.
Position 6 100 pips in profit.
Position 7 100 pips in profit.
Position 8 100 pips in profit.
Position 9 100 pips in profit.
Position 10 100 pips in profit.

Is this 100 pips or 1000 pips?

you are completely right. performance in pips is only available if there is no partial close but i think it's the case for maudur (example) and some others too.

@eval: bobmorloc did answer your question.
if we count indepentent orders without partial closing we have 1000 Pips

but if i trade 1 lot and partial close 100 times 0.01 lot every 1 pip i will not made 5050 Pips with this trade.

maudur took 6 positions ( 6 currencies) and closed each position with no partial close so amount of pips is correct i think

I use to trade like that, but yes you our right it dose not show our real performance.

% performance means nothing too cos it depends on leverage you choose, so it's difficult to have a real idea

i see what you mean.

but i like it simple: take out all positions at the "close price." so the pips displayed are the actual pippage per trade.

following MM rules in post #1 and the clause "However, this does not mean that one is only allowed to trade one order at a time."

so if my running capital is $3,000 then each position is at 0.3. 8 orders at any given time is the max i will allow myself. and that has to be perfect set up like today (all 4 currencies going to the same direction).

most of the time, just 3 positions.
5 traders viewing now
