Careful with that one. After 5 large green candles on the M15 chart, I would expect one or two M15 candles to the down side as a pull back. As long as it doesn't go below 1.3440, you should be okay on the long as it moves back up.

The next support will be 1.312(Monthly Main Pivot,and confluence between two Main Downtrend and Uptrend Line from the Higher Time Frames).

The parliamentary vote comes a day after the Standard & Poor's ratings agency downgraded Greece's credit rating to «selective default» over a debt writedown deal with private creditors that is an integral part of the country's second, 130-billion-euro bailout.

The Finance Ministry said the S&P downgrade «was pre-announced and all its consequences have been anticipated, planned for and addressed by the relevant decision of the European Council and the Eurogroup.» It added that the move had «no impact in the Greek banking sector."
Unions, meanwhile, Unions have planned demonstrations in Athens on Wednesday afternoon as part of Europe-wide anti-austerity protests, with the union of bank employees(OTOE)saying that they would also hold a three-hour work stoppage starting at noon on Wednesday.

The next few days will see the issuing of dozens of circulars aimed at pushing through delayed reforms including opening up closed professions and cutting operational costs in the public sector.

Factbox: Rules for the post-MF Global futures industry

(Reuters) – Four months after U.S. futures broker MF Global collapsed, roughly $1.6 billion in customer money is still missing, trading volumes are down, and the futures industry is looking for ways to restore confidence.

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission is due to hold a roundtable in Washington DC on Wednesday and Thursday to discuss how to better protect customer funds. Here are some of the more notable regulatory fixes currently under discussion:

* Make MF Global customers whole: Arguing that the industry will stay flat on its back unless all MF Global customers get every cent of their money back, two new members of the National Futures Association board proposed a novel solution: assess a fee on NFA members, and use the proceeds to secure a loan to cover the shortfall. The NFA is a quasi-regulatory agency funded by the industry and responsible for registering all futures brokers and overseeing some of them. The proposal, first floated in the weeks after MF Global’s October 31 bankruptcy, drew immediate criticism from insiders who said it would create "moral hazard." But the two board members stuck with it, and this month formally asked the NFA board to study the possibility. NFA’s president and chairman both declined to discuss the proposal with Reuters, and it’s unclear whether it will gain traction.

* Neutralize the "Corzine defense": Jon Corzine, the former Goldman Sachs banker who ran MF Global as its CEO until shortly after the bankruptcy, told lawmakers that he was unaware of any large transfers of customer money that could have resulted in the giant shortfall of funds. The NFA is considering a rule that would force the top executives of futures brokerages to sign off on or otherwise take "personal responsibility" for transfers of excess customer funds over a certain set amount, according to NFA’s Dan Driscoll.

ISDA Determinations Committee Accepts Question Related to a Potential Hellenic Republic Credit Event

LONDON, February 28, 2012 – The International Swaps and Derivatives Association, Inc. (ISDA), as secretary to the Determinations Committees (the DCs), today announced that a question relating to a potential credit event with respect to the Hellenic Republic has been submitted to, and subsequently accepted for consideration by, the EMEA Determinations Committee.

In accordance with the Determinations Committee Rules, a meeting will be held at 11AM GMT on Thursday, March 1 to determine whether a credit event has occurred.

Eccles was in a bind. His job at the Fed was to maintain relative stability of prices and the stock of money. In the years prior to 1937 money flowed into the USA from Europe. This "flight capital" fled to the USA in the form of gold shipments. The money came because the holders of wealth were anticipating a major war. With gold reserves rising, so did the supply of money. M1 increased 55%, and money in demand accounts rose 71% from 1933 to 1936. More troubling were rising inflationary pressures. In the first six-months of 1936, wages rose by 11%. Wages in the critical steel industry rose by 33%. These conditions would scare any reasonable Central Banker.

The Fed itself answered the historical question of whether the Fed’s actions in 1936-37 was responsible for the 1937-38 double dip. In a research paper, (PDF Link) St. Louis Fed researcher Charles Calomiris concluded:

We find that despite being doubled, reserve requirements were not binding on [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]bank[/color][/color] reserve demand in 1936 and 1937, and therefore could not have produced a significant contraction in the money multiplier.

Much of today’s monetary policy is based on the historical interpretation of the consequences of the Fed’s actions. If the Fed was not to blame for the 1937 crash, then who/what was? In her book, “The Forgotten Man”, Amity Shlaes provides some answers. She points to a critical speech by then Treasury Secretary Morgenthau on November 10, 1936:

The war against the Depression had required deficit spending. But the emergency is ending, and the domestic problems we face today are essentially different from those which faced us four years ago. We want private business to expand. We believe that one of the most important ways of achieving these ends is to continue toward a balance in the federal budget.

Morgenthau’s comments 75 years ago (and the following cut backs in federal spending that took place in 1937) remind me of where we sit today. After four-years of spending like mad to fight the recession/depression of 2008, the federal [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]government[/color][/color] has committed itself to dramatic cuts in spending starting in January of 2013. Coupled with those cuts are across the board tax increases for every individual who has income.

Bernanke’s Fed has sworn that it won’t make the mistakes of 1936/37. But I've shown (and the Fed’s own research confirms) that Fed policy was not the cause of the '37 crash. Bernanke is relying on a false interpretation of history to justify his monetary policy today.

We will face an economic slowdown due to lower federal spending, and at the same time, inflation will be rising as a result of the excessively loose monetary policy. Stagflation is in our future. Should this be the result, the historians will say that both the Fed and fiscal policy are to blame. In other words, we have not learned a thing from our past mistakes.

Dan drew our attention back on Sept. 30 to the recession call by the Economic Cycle Research Institute (ECRI). Since then, the economic data that matter to ECRI have gotten worse.

“The economy is weaker today than it has been in 21 months,” according to ECRI’s Lakshman Achuthan in a Bloomberg interview. “In 50-plus years of history... economic growth has never slowed this far without a recession following in short order.”

Achuthan’s best-case scenario: A “mild recession” on the order of 2001.

“The ECRI model,” Dan points out once again, “doesn’t issue false alarms. It relies on a robust series of economic metrics. The growth rate is still negative”:

Once again, major U.S. stock indexes are drifting today. The Dow is playing footsie with 13,000, but could easily be rebuffed, rebuked or rejected outright by day’s end.

The S&P has gotten past resistance at 1,365 and as of this writing has reached second base at 1,372

Yesterday, Abe Cofnas suggested a binary-option play on the Dow: Buying a Wall Street 30 12,925 binary and selling-to-open a 12,825 binary.

As I type, the underlying Dow futures are at 12,998. That means one half of Abe’s recommendation is in the money — and poised for a $100 payout on Friday! Stay tuned.

In addition to the consumer confidence numbers, traders are chewing on these figures...

 

1. Durable goods orders: Down huge in January, 4.0% according to the Commerce Department. That’s the biggest slump in three years. True, a tax credit expired at year-end 2011 allowing full depreciation on equipment purchases... but this will bear watching
2. Case-Shiller home price index: Down 4% in December to the lowest level since its peak in 2006. That’s the 20-city composite. The national figure is even worse, with prices now back to mid-2002 levels.

3:53 PM The results of the ECB's LTRO are scheduled to be released about 5:15 AM ET tomorrow, with estimates seeing the take-up at €500B. "Consensus is that an LTRO that is higher, equal to, or lower than consensus ... will all be positive for the euro," writes ZH of the currency which has defied mostly bearish forecasts thus far in 2012.

http://media.dailyfx.com/illustratio...D_body_eur.png EUR/USD: The latest break and daily close above 1.3325 ends a recent bout of multi-session consolidation and now opens the door for the next upside extension towards the 1.3600-1.3700 area over the coming days. While our broader outlook remains aggressively bearish with a downside target by 1.2000 in 2012, the 2012 correction within the broader downtrend off of the 2008 record highs is still in play, and shows potential for additional gains. Still, we prefer to remain sidelined as our bearish bias has us looking for opportunities to sell rather than attempting to buy into a corrective rally within a broader downtrend. We would also not rule out the possibility for a topside failure ahead of 1.3600-1.3700, but given the latest break, the risk for additional gains seems like a very real possibility that needs to be considered and anticipated. Back under 1.3350 will be required at a minimum to alleviate immediate topside pressures.
