Well, It is true that the medicine need is very harsh but don't forget that more than 5 years of negative growth and recession with unsustainable levels of economic output and debt CANT be cured overnight with or without Euro/Dollar/Franc as currency ...the problems are NOT in the monetary side but in fiscal and structural side.

They are "unfairly" punished first and only from their politicians that has mismanaged the economy for the last 15 years...and they voted for them so. As long as they don't internalize and address their own problems they will never get out of the hole.

Printing money and devaluing is a valid monetary policy but is only effective for relatively short term and to specific monetary problems and short term trade imbalances....

In the case of Greece losing all access to funding and market, inflation overshoot to the double or triple digits and devaluation making the currency worth prolly less than the Zimbabwe Dollar after the initial devaluation and more importantly losing all accountability (the few that there is still exits) from their politicians will only make things even worse ...and in the case of Greece watch-out for those military "influence" taking over ...not joking, possible if things go mad...

There is no even 1 single case in the world that has done it without structural changes and worse via artificial devaluation from S. Korea to Brazil ....

Agree is a mess whichever way you look at it but one option implies potential solution in the long term the other will just perpetuate, mediocrity, stupidity and corruption so choose your poison I know which I would take....
