Leaving the Maximos Mansion, Karatzaferis quoted a poem by Constantine P. Cavafy, suggesting that he had rejected the deal.
On returning to his party’s headquarters, he clarified that he objected to signing the agreement because he did not have enough time to study it. On Wednesday, Karatzaferis had asked for the document to be translated from English into Greek so he could assess it before the leaders’ meeting.

Despite not agreeing, the leader of the junior partner in the three-party coalition said that he did not want to cause any problems for the government and indicated he would keep on supporting it.

Karatzaferis added that he supported New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras in an effort to prevent drastic cuts to supplementary pensions.

Pension cuts only obstacle to concluding bailout deal

Prime Minister Lucas Papademos called representatives of the European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund – known as the troika – back to his office at the Maximos Mansion at about 1 a.m. in an attempt to resolve the dispute after roughly eight hours of talks with the party leaders.

Reports said that the two sides would have to find a way to make 300 million euros of savings in order to avoid 15 percent cuts to supplementary pensions and another 15 percent to basic pensions for former employees at public enterprises.

New Democracy made it known through its leader Antonis Samaras that it wanted supplementary pensions to drop no lower 300 euros per month.
PASOK leader George Papandreou said that his party would not allow the difference in the savings the troika was looking for to be made up by cuts to basic pensions.

Papademos’s office issued a statement saying that the party leaders agreed on all the other measures and that the stumbling block would be removed before the Eurogroup meeting on Thursday, which was to be attended by Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos.

“The Prime Minister and the political leaders met and examined in depth the content of the new economic program accompanying the country’s economic support for the following years,” the statement said.

“There was broad agreement on all the program issues with the exception of one, which requires further elaboration and discussion with the troika. This discussion will take place immediately, so as to conclude the agreement in view of the Eurogroup meeting.

“The president of LAOS Giorgos Karatzaferis expressed serious reservations.”
Samaras explained why he was standing firm on the issue of pension cuts.
“At these difficult times, we have to look after regular people, such as pensioners,” said Samaras. “I have no right not to negotiate hard and I am not concerned at all if some people try to misinterpret this.
“We are trying to ensure that people feel less pain.”

Papandreou did not make any comments after leaving the meeting.
Papademos is set to meet again with the leaders or contact them on the telephone after concluding his talks with the troika.

Karatzaferis was the first to leave the meeting and made it clear that he was not signing the agreement but would continue to be part of the coalition government. He complained that he did not have enough time to study the text.

The 50-page document details the austerity measures and reforms Greece will have to agree to secure a crucial 130-billion-euro bailout. It foresees savings of some 3 billion euros this year and another 10 billion until 2015.
Many changes are also foreseen for the private sector. The monthly minimum wage, which is currently at 751 euros, is to be reduced by 22 percent. It will be cut by an additional 10 percent for those aged under 25 in a bid to tackle youth unemployment, which stands at around 40 percent.

The duration of collective labor contracts is to be restricted to three years. Thereafter, the terms of the contracts will apply for just three months, after which employers will be free to negotiate wages with workers.
There will be no automatic pay rises until unemployment -- now at 19 percent -- falls below 10 percent.

The document also foresees an end to permanent jobs for employees in public enterprises and state-controlled banks.

Other measures are a 2 percent cut in social security contributions paid by employers and a 3 percent reduction in contributions to the Social Security Foundation (IKA).

In the last week or so, I’ve noticed an unusual amount of really well written and researched articles warning of impending doom and financial horror. These articles are not written by a bunch of angry uneducated bloggers but by money managers, investors and financial writers. All are people who got it right leading up to the meltdown of 2008, and my bet is they are right again. The mainstream media (MSM) told you after the 2008 crash, “Nobody saw that coming,” which is a bold faced lie that will not work again.

Jim Quinn of TheBurningPlatform.com wrote a tour de force of troubling realities you will never hear on the MSM. Quinn lays out the case for coming ruin with stats, charts and razor sharp logic in a post called “Illusion of Recovery–Feelings vs. Facts.” In his summation, Quinn says, “There is no avoiding the final collapse of a boom created solely by credit expansion. Those in power will never voluntarily relinquish their grand game of pillaging the wealth of the nation, so economic collapse will be the ultimate result. They will continue to use propaganda, printing presses, and half-truths to further their agenda. But those who examine the facts will come to a logical conclusion that we are being sold a great lie.” (Click here to read this very long but very good Jim Quinn post.)
Other headlines read “Many of Us Will Never See Happy Days Are Here Again.” The reports site a multitude of statistics showing America in ruin. Did you know “49 percent of all Americans live in a home that gets direct monetary benefits from the federal government”? (Click here for that story.) How about this little post titled “Why The Notions Of Systemic Failure Or Going To Zero Are On Par With Bigfoot & Unicorns For Most Investors.” Money manager Graham Summers cites two ugly monstrous facts, “1) US commercial banks currently sit atop $248 TRILLION in derivatives 2) The US Federal Reserve is now buying 91% of all long-term new US debt issuance (at the same time China and Russia are dumping US bonds).” (Click here for more on this story.)

Other titles include: “A Financial Crisis in 2012 is Inevitable! Here’s Why,” “Government Is Dead Man Walking-The Fiscal Situation Is Much Worse Than Most People Realize,” and “The Financial Crisis Of 2008 Was Just A Warm Up Act For The Economic Horror Show That Is Coming.” All these were written in the last week or so, and all feature sound analysis. (There were several more I left out for the sake of brevity.) Please keep in mind, these stories only talk about the facts and fundamentals of the economy. War in the Middle East is not mentioned in any article. When you consider hostilities featuring Syria, Iran, Israel, China, Russia and the United States, the mind boggles. War would bring collapse, chaos, and financial calamity in very short order. Oh, and by all means, let’s throw the European debt crisis into the mix for good measure.

Good night? Wow i just woke up i havent had breakfast yet

I know I promised to sit on my hands today, but after getting off work tonight I couldn't resist going long @ 1.3229 following the spike with the delayed Chinese CPI. I got a little separation and have moved SL to BE. fib T1 = 1.3287 fib T2 = 1.3330 with trailing stop.

Judging by a) what the ECB has been pulling out of it's a$$ lately b) how Draghi seems to magically talk the Eur up and c) a new "deal" could be around the corner, it seems like a good break even trade.

Let's push that Eur up just a bit more (let it marinate) so we can make those inevitable shorts a bit juicer! Then we can eat greedy (Big Steaks).

Also I'm hearing on the wires that a press report has been run stating that the chinese are going to lend the eurozone some money merkel happened to be in china last week.

Rattyo, The Chinese say many things when they stand at a podium with other leaders and then it all fizzles out when they don't follow through.
In all my trading years, I have learned the most valuable lesson. Never trust what comes out of a politicians mouth. Talk is cheap. Action is where it is. Once you see the Chinese actually investing in the EFSF, then it is time to believe... not before.

Finally I found a good thread for EUR analysis. Thanks to all.
