They do trade individually... in the futures markets

Well, this might be a good deal for some investors, which are already loosing money from the depreciation of their currencies... I men that the negative rate could be the acceptable loss and not a problem. Don't you think that the deflated euro reserves (accumulated while SNB have been trying to lower the rate of frank, buying EUR) would be the real problem?

Stocks are not traded individually. You buy stocks for money that is they are a pair Stock/Money. And you buy Eur for dollars or vice versa. If you have an account in another currency then you hold two position (even though your broker makes it look like one)
