CPI & Core CPI ~in line and price stalled at MR 2 / fib expansion, so booked some profits from that buy this morning.......now I'll read a book till NYSE opens.....

Hi guys,

I've got a weekly 38.2 fib at around 1.3050 which it has been bouncing off as resistance the last few days. I was looking to see if the pullback would now act as support although it is back below now. Might wait for a bit and see if it can draw a pin bar or something as a possible short term long signal up to 1.3150/3200ish?

As it's Friday afternoon I'll probably just watch..

Not arguing with you. Just exemplifying my point earlier that my entries are based on confidence and clarity. There is a difference between gambling and stacking probabilities. I view gambling as playing 50:50 chances. Our jobs as traders are not to 'play' but to trade based on careful analysis.

..I suppose I am arguing with you a little bit.

Isn't life just one big gamble though? You know crossing the street, dedicating 9-5 hours 5 times a week to a company that might go under or make you redundant? Giving your money to someone else to manage for you? Buying insurance for just about anything...

What's wrong with gambling? Some people make it sound like a dirty word..

I'll step in too with my usual mumbo-jumbo

Life in itself is a big gamble. We're taking the most "interesting" or "appealing" or "correct" path at every given moment, and, most of the time, we make catastrophic decisions. Because we're lead by our expectations of what we consider to be "interesting", "exciting", "exhilarating" and you can safely fill in the blanks with whatever you want.

Although I'm trading only for about 4 months now, I took far riskier decisions in my life than in my trades. Yet, since I started to trade, I started to realize where I'm wrong. It's like a "mirror" game for the real life. You simply cannot fool trading. If you're the kind of type that sticks too much in a bad situation, hoping that life will finally turn around and give you what you "deserve", you'll do the same in trading: you'll stay in losing trades until you get a margin call. In real life, this is called a "wake up call", when you finally lose your job, your relationship, whatever it wasn't good for you, but you chose to stick with it, because of hope. I don't think this is gambling, because you can make a decision. Get out. Take the loss. Start over.

So, in this respect, trading is just a big metaphor of life itself, which, in turn, is just a big gamble.

never said its bad, don't read so far into it. why do you think i've been reading this forum? perhaps to improve my "chances"...

i know i'm not alone when i say that i have had positions where i had the utmost confidence & clarity in my entry only for it to go sideways or bad. what word describes that? does that word have any synonyms? i'm sorry i even said it, JFC.

the latest spike created a perfect uptrend channel on M15. Loaded 2 longs, at 1.3027 & 1.3033 with a TP at 1.3080.

Of course, apart from the uptrend channel, profit taking for shorts, lack of bad news from Europe (which seems to be translated into good news, actually), I also had a bit of mumbo-jumbo analysis for these 2 positions, which I will humbly skip.

Still having 92 pips today, let's see how this play out.

Now it looks as if your taking it personally. I was just about to back you up. Technically you are correct:

"Gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value (referred to as "the stakes") on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods. Typically, the outcome of the wager is evident within a short period." wiki

Really the way we are using the word 'gambling' is in a subjective context. Objectively every trader (including retailers) are gamblers. Banks, funds, etc that have a huge edge over retailers can still loose large amounts like retailers do.

I could be wrong, we could all be wrong. We are all probably wrong.... lol

Definitely not doing any fresh shorts right now, this thing look like it has more upside to go before slamming down again. ... Would have liked a long opportunity but afraid to do that too as it looks like its in no mans land.
