What you have is the bears and the bulls staring at each other. Each will make mad dashes at the other only to be stopped and sent back. It makes for very choppy trading, but as long as you remember the key rule of range trading, which is to take a position against strength, you should have made a lot of money as either a bear or a bull.

I have circled the areas on my 4H chart that show the ranges. Note...
yep past two weeks have been very tough. but if you draw your fibs up on ur 4 hour chart. put 100% on 11/14/11 put 0% on recent lowest low what do you get? i was in that short but had to close my postion to go flat for the weekend (didnt want to but my trade plan is the boss when im in front of that monitor) i called it out if you look back if it was not that 1 it was 1 of those tops. & if you check the time of the call out you would see it was 20 min before price hit that target. now i dont advise anybody to now start trying to trade this tommorow. reseach, test & if you want to be really consitantly profitable. go to a proper trading school. i would shout out some names but i havent got enuff posts yet. might get spamed. & i know the cop in the room cant wait to get rid of my @rse. hope i helped mate

Me too. But I closed out over half of my shorts just in case. If it really breaks south in a full on trend, there will be lots of chances to lay into it.

Should put 100% on 10/27/11 on the 4H. What is more, look at the top of the sections that are ranging. If you took a position too early, the best case scenario is that you would have to hold your position for a long time before it made money. However the most likely case is that one of the spikes would have stopped you out... Probably the last in the series before it fell 300 points.

During a range you are much wiser to take your profits later that day.

Also what a fib says is that most corrections are around 50%. Those that are not are about 10% more or 10% less. And sometimes that doesn't work, so try again at about 25% and 75%. And then again at 12% and 88%. Not a precision science and certainly not enough to take a trade.
