First, thanks MJ and RJ for bringing present the psychological aspect of trading into this thread. I hope you both TRULY get the acknowledgment you make here!!!
This IS the biggest aspect of trading, and often put on the back burner as something to deal with...later. You will never "get around to it" and will always be 'dealing with it'. That being said, we are not monkeys, even though my icon, and now MJ's too( ) are, and as such, we can never TOTALLY act without some facet of discretion involved- even though I would like to. there was a long entry in eu signaled just ahead of frankie open.. gave approx 5 pips room to set BE. If not, this trade would be stopped out later with recommended 50 pip stop on M5 tf even before an extreme spike appeared.
Ignored
i saw that! that's the 2nd attempt so i took the trade and got stopped out at 50 SL. however, i also made a sell for 50 pips down assuming it was going to range today (apparently, it has moved 90 pips down, and another 90pips up (as of rgiht now). so i'm -3.4 pips for today due to spread (i already told myself i would not trade today. stubborn me)

so 1 thing is for sure, we have reached the bottom (1.3215) and this is going to be 1 long bull run next week! how did i get into that conclusion? it's because of those long signals. i noticed that in this system - it signals when it's ready to turn the other way. this 1.3215 dip is the last effort to get the last best prices to position. maybe there's another attempt to dip to that 1.3215, but it's definitely a bull run next week! maybe im talking nonsense now. time will tell if my analysis is correct. there's so much to this sentiment indikator.... i can't pin point it just yet, but there seems to be more to it than just that... as if one can almost touch it...

you guys, have other systems and trendlines, right? is 1.3215 a formidable psychological support price?

have a great weekend everyone!

We_R_12,

You are corect sir! Nice post. As I have always said since I started this thread that FEAR and GREED drive the market and you are part of the market so those elements will always drive you and will always be with you your entire life.

Disipline is the most important aspect of a trading program that I hope everyone will take point away with them from using the Symphonie System. Without disipline not possible to stick with the program in all its aspects; so, you might as well just take your money out of the bank and set it on fire because that is how fast it will dissapear without trading disipline.

I am glad to hear that Symphonie has helped you become a better trader and it is my hope that it will effect all in a positive way.

Eval.

Hi,

Attached PDF for newcomers in this thread.

I have been trading this system for 2 weeks. All i can say is, its not a perfect system but its definitely profitable.

I use indicators and template from post 1.
The only indicator different is , i am using MJ's symphonie trendline indicator.
I trade m5 and m15 EU with this system.

Hey Jurn_e,

Just wanted to say thank you for your efforts with this! I can see that this has taken you some time! Been reading every post - only about half way now.. This definitely makes things easier!

.. How are you folks picking the actual entry, mechanically speaking?

Do you have a new bar alarm on the 5 min that you compare to the Supertrend indi to see if it has painted the required color change?

Or since that seems to repaint, do you wait for a second bar to confirm?

Just trying to pick the cleanest entry method.

I like BBand as well the attached copy has been altered to allow for decimal parts of the deviation. This may help you to get a more accurate depiction of the 5min bband on the 15min that you had been asking about earlier.

What is your daily goal( or session goal) or however you have it broken down, and VERY IMPORTANT- how are you doing(results over time)in achieving that goal? Thanks in advance for sharing!

Just completed my first trade using SEFC, on demo ofc. Entered at 1.32491 sl at 50pips as recommended. At 20 pips up I moved SL to BE and closed out half my position. Retrace hit SL, but still happy as I'm in profit.

Suppose it would have been better if I waited with the SL move? Maybe at 30 pips rather?

Anyway, thank you for an awesome system so far! Learning a lot from all the Guru's here!

Nice Job! Per Eval's plan, yes indeed 30 pips is the magic #. Keep up the practice, you'll improve too! Way to go!

hi interesting question, i'm eager on replies.

I'd like to tell you my goals but i can't.. firstly i'm not a pro (fulltime traders apparently use them), secondly i can understand the merit of having a loss limit per day/session (mkt conditions, not feeling well etc - any subjective or objective reason) but i never understood the reasoning behind profit goals (i know the reasons being told in books etc but can't comprehend).

Limiting goals (aka 'got my pips and calling it a day') have a single one sensible reason: quitting the boring job earlier (this reason is ok and as RJ said earlier - we don't live to trade but trade to live). I wannabe-trade london+ny.. i can't imagine sweating my limit (if i had one) out of a difficult london session, get it done and then ignore a clear and obvious setup in NY session just because the clock(!) blocks me from participating that particular day. perhaps i'm st*pid and/or ignorant but this is not discipline, this is artificially crippling the odds. And it's no measure against overtrading either - if you know how to trade, you can trade 24/5 and you will not overtrade.

time-based goals that are supposed to be achieved: i understand them even less. the market gives what it gives.

re the psych things we talked about... heh, if it was just about fear, greed, self-hypocrisy and comparison, it would be fine.. there is a sea of much deeper darkness involved .

Ever hear the phrase, "don't try to catch a falling knife"?

Be careful trading next week, as a lot of the Euro slide is due to rising bond yields from several member countries. Something is really wrong when yields on German bonds are rising as well.

..and that's why i struggle hard to follow the rules to the point. i woke up and saw this.. took it as you see, with a 10.6pip stop (sometimes i put the stop just above m15 bar). but there was no extreme spike. hard to follow this rule when the trend is sustained and 'linear', .
Ignored
there was a spike! see the picture i posted in post# 3021? use that spike, trendline, senti and emo, aligned, and there you have a valid entry... purely mechanical. yes i know that spike like hours ago, but if you look at your M15 charts, which you use, spikes are from so many hours ago. not to mention there was no blue spike in the horizon, so that's a clear sell signal. actually, it's screaming, "sell here" (imho).

wait i have to say this first.... see, the price went down to 3222 again! i knew there'll be an attempt to get into a better price! the sentiment indikator says so. (no fundis, no other systems, just eval's)

this is my reaction to the quote: eval mentioned that FEAR and GREED drive the market... and someone mentioned in this thread that EU was supposed to have gone south for 2011 due to the "we're still in the global recession," and "failure of the super committee" and what have you; and yet, EU has maintained if not improved its value. so something else is driving the prices. like i mentioned i can't pin point it, but the sentiment indikator seems to measure that whatever is driving the mkt..... like you can taste it but can't really tell what it is.

time will tell. i'll just rely on the signals to be sent by the system and not rely on what i think. the warning is duly noted.

Thanks but I have been trading the system and was asking a narrow question as to whether somebody has a good trigger for when the 4th indicator (trendline) locks in. I setup the attached Supertrend Alert indi to match the original system, but it sings on every tick and also repaints. Just searching for an automated way be alerted to when the trendline indicator signals - and stays that way. Maybe there isn't a better way beyond watching it for 10 minutes...

For me, my daily goal is +75 pips. The reason I have a goal at all I will explain in my next post, which will be a reply to MJ because it touches on her post as well.

Do I achieve it every day?......lol.....I wish! Sometimes I take much more than my goal, double even occasionally. Sometimes I have a losing day. Over time?........no, I can't quite get to that average pips/day. I'm not too concerned about not achieving the daily goal, it's kinda like the attached pic....I strive to grab the carrot, and as long as the carrot is out of my reach, I'll be keen to keep trying!!

I understand why you say that MJ, and I agree completely with you. My circumstances (read time zone) dictates when I can and can't trade.

Now that daylight saving has kicked in for the summer for me......and kicked out for the winter for you, and Europe, and USA, it puts the NY open at 2am for me. Given that very often nothing much happens for 90 minutes, that would make it 3.30am for me. I would love to be a regular participant in NY session because there are some great trades there, but it's just impossible. When the summer/winter hours thing is reversed, NY session opens at midnight for me, and that's not quite so bad, at least I can participate in some of the major news announcements etc.

So in essence, I need to make my daily goal before (say) 1am.....if I trade later than that, by the end of the week my eyeballs will be hanging out!

If I make my goal by (say) 10.30pm.......yipee.....I can go to bed with a coffee, read a book or watch some TV or something.....an early night you might say. I will have my early night and be content and happy that I made my goal.

Will I fret about a possible 50 pip move that might come while I'm reading my book?.......no, not at all, because I have achieved my goal for the day, and it's a decent sized goal!

If I haven't achieved my goal by (say) 1am, then so be it. I will go to bed happy with whatever I have got for the day. If I have a losing day, so be it....that's all part of the life of a trader.

Now, bear in mind that London opens at 9pm for me, which gives me 3-4 hours of trading that session at best. Sometimes there is some great moves then....sometimes not. Asian session opens at 1pm for me so that is the session that I can trade from start to finish......unfortunately, the Asian session often doesn't give up many pips......but......M1 and M5 trading can sometimes eek out 30 or 40 pips......which leaves me with 30 or 40 pips to get during the first part of London session.....which is often possible.

If I didn't have a goal, then I might be still be trading at 3 or 4am (greed), and then by the end of the week I'd be a ratty, shitty man to be around!!!

So, to wrap it up......I have a goal to reward myself with. If I achieve the goal, then I can have an early night. If not, I'll trade until about midnight or maybe 1am. Either way though.....I don't go to bed sad that I didn't get the goal, and whether I get the goal or not, I don't go to bed sad because I might miss a good move when USA session really gets going.

Thanks, Cee -

For some reason, I can't view ex4 files in my list of custom templates and can only add mq4's manually. A weird problem that only a few people seem to have. Anyways, If you don't have the mq4 file, could you just put it up again attached to a tpl file? I can load it that way.

I looked at your chart and I see a great entry. Later I duplicated the chart and added the MTFMA with the method set to 3 and the third generation ma from the link below. In this chart as you can see @ the WHITE circles the 21(pink) cross thru 34(blue) before the trendline change color in the countertrend trade you entered. The second annotation is essentially the same analysis but with trend. First time I ever use either of these ma's but it seems like could be a simple additional confirmation to place a PO.
