Hi folks, I’m here to explain why SteveHopwood is now a Commercial Member.

Forex Factory has three rules that have been in place since 2005: http://www.forexfactory.com/userguide.php#rule3

Rule #3 states:

Quote
Disliked
If you make money by servicing* Forex traders in any way, shape, or form, or have any commercial agenda whatsoever, you are NOT permitted to post in the forums regardless of whether your posts are promotional or not.

SteveHopwood is obviously breaking this rule by promoting his $100 per EA coding services.

When I was alerted that Steve was posting this commercial message in the first post of his threads, I sent him a nice email asking him to remove the messages. Instead of replying to me, and working things out in the background (as 90% of forum issues are handled), Steve chose to take it to the forum in an attempt to leverage his supporters and force FF to make an exception for him.

We at Forex Factory like Steve as much as all of you do. He has made enormous contributions to the forum and helped countless traders. However, we will not compromise our rules for him.

We value Rule #3. It’s absolutely critical to maintaining a healthy trading environment on the FF forums. If we were to allow commercial operators to mingle on the forums, we feel it would ruin the trading environment. While we value Steve’s membership, we cannot make an exception for him as it would cause other commercial operators (many of whom have also made great contributions to the forum) to stand up and say “Hey, you are letting Steve sell on the forums, why not me?”. And as we gradually make more and more exceptions to the rule, the FF forums slowly turn into a spam dump. This is why we defend this rule with such vigor.

We didn’t threaten Steve or take action against him. I wrote him a personal email, asking him nicely to remove the commercial message from his posts. It wasn’t until after he posted this message, and emailed me stating that he would not comply with the rule, that we made him commercial. My last email to Steve stated that he is welcome to remove the commercial messages and return to normal member status, but judging by his lack of response to me, we are assuming he is sticking to his guns.

While we value Steve’s membership, we value Rule #3 a lot more. We have to defend this rule at all costs. We hate to see so many members angry with FF over this action, and we really hate to lose the great contributions by Steve, but the alternative is far worse.

I’m sorry all of you guys got wrapped up in this, and we on the FF team are saddened to have to take this action.

Wow, you can make an exception for FXAdvice, but not for Steve? That doesn't make sense at all, sorry.

So be it.

There are other forums. Traders will find a home that supplies them with what they what - we know all about supply and demand. I think many here will vote accordingly.

Case in point. This is exactly what others would say if we made an exception for Steve. One little crack in the rule and it all unravels.

FYI, FXAdvice is a Commercial Member, so I'm not clear on why you think an exception is being made for him.

Hey !

Looks like the 3rd World War there...but for peanuts....let me laugh...

All this hard work moving threads to the Commercial area because of
one sentence of Steve at the beginning of all his threads...

No other member is less "commercial" than Steve there...

Regards
Alex

Well, that is pretty clear. I don't really agree with the application, as I'm sure it would be possible to distinguish between commercial members providing free, open source work in general forum threads - and commercial members' threads in the commercial area specifically concerning their commercial services.

This thread, for example, is quite clearly for a free, open source and non-commercial EA. There is no difference between the content of this thread and any others in the Trading Systems area.

So, Steve, what's the plan? (Assuming you are not white hot with range and can approach a keyboard without melting it.)

Cheers

The point I'm making is that FXAdvice runs a signal service (which is prohibited by the rules)

"Commercial agendas tend to compromise the integrity of forum discussions and are therefore not permitted. If you make money by servicing* Forex traders in any way, shape, or form, or have any commercial agenda whatsoever, you are NOT permitted to post in the forums regardless of whether your posts are promotional or not."

and when you deleted his thread a while back you caved in and re-instated his thread because of all the e-mails, even though he still runs a signal service.

Twee,
With all due respect,

What about I guy I saw around FF somewhere asking for "donations" to HIM for downloading his code. There have been many who have requested donations for charities.

I am not against ANY of these, and I also agree with twee that we cant have our community cluttered with commercial scams. But comparing Steve with the commercial scammers is like comparing a retailer like Sears and Robuck with the woman that brings an Avon book to the workplace. Different intentions, different goals.

All of us FF vets have seen times that passing mention of peoples fees for services have been alluded to in posts, and threads.

It's really nothing to me, since I can't code a thing, and I only trade with EA's for a little fun.

But it seems to me that if you allow one thing, you have to allow the other.

It just seems an unnecessary parsing of details. IMHO

I am running the bot as follows:

Original bot on 1 min chart: 1AM EST to 11 AM EST then 1 pm - 3PM. Using MPTM JS at 15 pips adding BE profit 5 pips. In doing so I am trying to avoid the whipsaw in Asia and the retrace that comes with the closing of London.

Current Bot: 5 min chart; same time of day. Have not decided on an MPTM values yet.

I think it is key to find some values to lock in profits with this bot. The reason being that this market moves with every rumor and fart in the wind. I am not sure if using an ATR value or JS or TS is best....

Think you are right. I shut mine off a while ago, by simply waiting until the basket was in profit. (I had 4 pair going). A condition that the bot turn off as scheduled might would solve half of it. Could you run something like the old T101 Protect account EA to look for profit, or minimize loss after Bot turminates?

I have the bot going on the 1 minute chart, EU and UCad. Pretty much default sets.

As you know, these tend to run opposite. During the last hour or two, has been very volitile and ranging. There have been some biggish losses, that have been partially offset by some small profits. I think that will help drawdown a little, until the market sets a general direction and the pairs start moving in unison.

Also, have opened the UChf and AU, which also should move opposite (although you can't really count on the CHF these days).

I am thinking losses...

BTW, I ended up with a small profit on the day. Drawdown was about 2 percent of account balance. EOD profit, about 1 percent. It opened a hell of a lot of trades, and many times I saw greater than 100 pips (on the 4 pairs combined) disappear and go to Breakeven Profit. Had I intervened, each time I saw greater than 100 pips, a would guess account profit would have been 2-3 percent. I'll try to post an account statement later

Woohoo. It seems I can.

Ok guys. Only someone with the intellectual capacity of a brain-damaged turnip thinks that I am 'commercial' just because I ask a derisory fee for coding an EA for someone who does not want it published at FF.

So be it. There is nothing I can do to change this. Apparently my 100+ freely-published EA's are of no value here, compared to my asking a derisory fee for coding an EA for someone who does not want it published at FF.

So, I have moved the base of my activities to my own forum. I know I said that this would be a private, invitation-only forum but on reflection I changed my mind. I have no desire to bar from it brilliant traders and programmers who would thus be barred from contributing to the development of auto-traders - or manual systems for that matter.

My forum should not be hard to find. If you cannot, then send me a pm and I will send you a link. If all else fails, follow my signature and go to my pianist web site to find an email address where you can contact me.

And when the petty-minded mods here decide to ban me and remove my threads/posts so that you cannot find me, then pm one of my many friends here; they will send you a link.

So, it looks as though my time at FF is done. It has been a blast guys. I have learned a lot.

Cheers. Have fun.

There is always a compromise.. Those who were on the FF long enough,

knows that Steve is a good coder and can code about anything..

And those in need for help always can PM him and ask for help,

or at least try, that's where Biz can be done without visible promotion..

That way everyone is happy. Wolfs not hungry and sheeps are safe,

including

rule #3. Twee just said don't promote, which doesn't mean he cannot

still be rewarded under the table for his hard work..

IMHO.

P.S.

Though been labeled as "Commercial member" while typing 3000000 pages of FREE code

and selling 2 of them for spare change, if any,

doesn't fit the Title, not sure if I express myself correctly on that one..

Don't know what to say, but It's so sad to lose such contributors, those who invest

good few YEARS of FREE support on this Forum, just because DOD FRANK regulations.

I bet all those Inet parasites made quite nice chunk of cash reselling Steve's EA's on Ebay

and elsewhere.
