also Germany is a nation of savers without inflation hedges such as real estate (most rent) The periphery countries used to rely upon devaluations any time their economies weakened. Italy and Greece are notorious for that. So a hard currency country such as Germany is being paired with soft country's. That is still one of the big points for Euro bears, incompatiblity.

The UK aint in the Euro, but we still get bled to death by the EU contributions and they are a high enough chunk of our taxes to pay for a week holiday somewhere. Ironically giving us our tax money to spend on a holiday in portugal, italy, greece, spain etc would probably do more good for those economies than the bunch of wasters who run the EU.

article is a couple years old. I thought things seemed familiar though when i kept hearing of "Middle Eastern names" pesistently buying the euro in recent weeks.

my analysis today if prices should rise once we sell in 1.4244-1.42689 TP 1.4090-57, but if prices fall first advance should buy at 1.4090-1.40550 TP 1.4300 good luck

Well what a story I have to tell went out yesterday morning OZ time the price was 13860ish, and my loving wife saw a JP Morgan report on the web and decided to put in a sell for me with no stop loss as a suprise for when I return from my real job, and 300pips later SUPRISE
I have decided to leve it open and belive it will come back.

PS the wife now knows to leve well enough alone..

I think most of us have some shorts we are waiting to see turn around. In the meantime, there are plenty of great plays while it tries to decide if it wants to resurface towards 61.8 or head back towards the 50 mark.

Between high volumes currently, bearish looking RSI, a weak MACD, and SMA's looking to cross on this move...my chart wants me to believe its a possible push towards the 50...watching another hr or 2 to feel more comfortable to test a short towards 1.404 mark

Just an opinion of a gambler mind you!

Really interesting article.

It seems like a good idea for everybody but the US. Using a basket of currencies would reduce volatility and would also remove control of the world money markets from the US.

Only... I wonder what will happen if people no longer need the USD to conduct exchange in world trade. No longer do companies and countries need to hoard USD. So in addition to the QE bad boys, we have everybody else dumping their USD. Not good at all for the global economy.

its no secret that the world is sick of bully USA. he has the biggest military on the planet and a itchy trigger finger and, oh yeah, the reserve currency. What happens to you if you would like to or actually do abandon the usd as a predominant medium of payment for crude (i.e., Saddam Hussein, Moamar Qaddafi, Hugo Chavez, Iran)...? You get bombed or ostracized. Now add to that list China, the Arabs, and Europe.

They might not care if the usd was not the victim of perennial devaluation by its managers, but that ain't likely to change, given the USA's debtor nation status.

I would not bet against the euro in the long term. Everything changes. Probably sooner than you might expect the usd will not retain its sole hegemony over global reserve currency status, and will be forced to share that role with other world powers. Without Daddy Warbucks on the throne, the USA's slide into mediocrity will be confirmed and accelerated.

I agree that I would not bet against the Euro long term. I have posted quite a bit on this very subject. Sadly I bet against the euro short term, and I have paid a price.

US is rightly hated by any nation that has a lot of oil. If you look at the top 9 oil producing nations, 5 currently have US troops on their soil, 3 consider the US as their worst enemy and 1 (UAE) is surrounded by US bases.

The "china currency bill" is wrongly named. It has absolutely nothing to do with China, despite all the rhetoric. It has everything to do with the US being able to impose tariffs on anybody at anytime. Anybody who doubts this does not have a firm grasp on the existing laws of the US and what is contained in this law.

And if you look at a belligerent attitude...The US is up there with Russia and Iran. China, for example, last fought a war in 1979... they kicked the crap out of the Vietnamese in exchange for democratic recognition.

But the catch is that if the American economy goes down with a big bang, the world goes with it. Hating America is one thing. Killing your biggest customer is another.

I believe and agree to this. not being politicial, the WMD search was false, iraq never had such a weapon, and thye came for oil. now they're doing the same to iran, and libya's a matter of time. Everything was fine in the ME, and i think its a conspiracy intervention from the outside to cause such havoc. i lived in syria all swell for 3 years and just suddenly things happen. Western media mocked President Assad, who was actually pro-growth and pro-modern style president who was not bad to his people. amazing how people lie and stab with media. Why didn't this happen to US allied countires? Kuwait, Saudi? doing doing doing... big question mark. politics is dirty, politics with power is even MORE dirty. Palestine. Israel, really, making settlements all over the place? there was never an Israel. yet... lol.. hehe. if e.g. mexico starts making settlements on america, and crushing buildings (lol) it would be some major news, and UN would come in. but where on earth is it in Palestine and more needed crises? US has control over oil, UN, NATO, the list is so long.

i have no problems with americans at all, i am not a rascist, neither a person makign stereotypes, america is a great country, great plains, mountains, countrysides, people; i hate the way the government becomes world police, thinks they can play funny and trick people's minds, and kill their own people, bring them to demise for some personal desire for their own. then they make bad thoughts about arabs. muslims. i dont know about dumping the USD, because you got their minions: Europe, UK, and just about the western world . they provide a lot of world trade, and the only possibility is to move on to the euro. speaking of debt, US is in trillions more than EZ. its possible, but i do not know yet. any thoughts?

its heavily possible, and ill try come up with different cycle dates just for a heads up.

thats why US is almost bulletproof.
Almost, but not completely. The US has a few Achilles heels. But it also has a few aces in the hole. What seems clear to me is that nobody, (Americans, Europeans, Chinese, etc) is happy with the status quo.
