edit- but as a general rule of thumb, your leverage should be no more than 10:1 as a novice (I'm assuming you're a novice from the general tone of your questions), which would equate to $10k for every $1k of account equity, which translates as 1 mini-contract on a dollar denominated pair (eg. EURUSD) and your risk exposure should be no more than 5% of total account equity (preferably lower), which on a $1k account would equate to $50 dollars or on a 1 mini-contract lot would equate to a 50 pip initial hard stop.
Your risk reward should be at a very minimum 1:1.5, i.e. you should be targeting a minimum profit (but preferably higher) of $75 dollars or 75 pips on a 1 mini-contract lot, with a 50 pip stop loss.
As for time frame, no lower than 1 hour and preferably higher until you have at least 6 months of experience...

But really you should follow the advice regarding demo trading, it will save you a lot of money and emotional pain in the long run, trust me on that...

2. Take the money that remains and give it back to the owner.
3. Go to the help wanted ads and find yourself a job, pay back the money in installments.
Now that you have taken a huge beating, you will be trading with scared money and that never finishes well. If by some chance you were to make back a portion, you might believe you could make back the rest and both outcomes will result in the same, BUST.
You still have a small portion of the money, which is better then a big fucking goose egg. Give it back....
