Folks, before you commit to your positions and go to sleep, remember that today after NY close, Alcoa (sym:AA) the aluminium giant are releasing their Q3 earnings report and Q4 guidance.

It is expected to be negative on both counts and if in fact it is, it will not do the equity indices any favors.

Therefore in such a situation we would expect a moderate drop in the euro.

The opposite holds true if we get a positive report.

1:22 (Dow Jones) S&P cutting its ranking on Spain's banking system comes on the heels of Friday's 2-notch downgrade of the country's credit ratings by Fitch and further highlights contagion fears from the euro zone's woes. S&P argues there are "increased economic risks that Spain is facing," and hence more impact on Spain's banking system. Hence the ratings cuts on 10 Spanish banks, led by Santander (STD) and BBVA, each getting 1-notch slaps to AA-, three steps below AAA. Further downgrade isn't out of the question, S&P added. It looks like we'll have a bearish harami or inside pin bar on the daily... We broke the fallen channel because of the bank holiday so I'm 80% certain after today we'll continue the downtrend... Price found support on 23% fib with resistance at 1.367 area.. We break 23% fib and the bears are back

Hmmm no reaction on the Euro.
Perhaps the market has now become immune to downgrades because it has already partially priced in bank failures.

Looks like it will in fact test 1.37. There are barrier options there so it will be a fight. Huge supply zone. If it makes it through, it could go to 1.3770 area before heading back down. That's how it looks right now. Tomorrow may be a different story.

It's trying.

I got both pieces filled short at at a basis of 1.36821 from my plan I posted earlier. I love it when it barely touches price and turns around to be immediatly in the green.

Time to cinch the seat belts tight and hang on for the ride. Let's see what happens. Hopefully doesn't do a U-turn and head for red LOL.

The bond market is less problematic when you have the ECB moving to directly (re)capitalize the eurozone banks and sovereign governments. And they are getting that done for now with inflows of foreign capital. House of cards...taller...shakier....

Waiting to see how the weak banks unravel... and unravel they will.
There was no warning when Bear Sterns and Lehman went down in the US crisis.
Remember that Dexia passed the stress tests. What other banks out there are in just as bad a shape or worse?
