Here's my opinion. It depends on what he's trying to accomplish. C language is very low level and hard to start with but it will teach you a lot about data types. However, managing the memory is a bitch. Java is OK, a little easier and a lot of already built code out there that you can simply plug into your application. So again, it depends. If it's for trading, then going with MQL to start with might be a good option. I was thinking of coding an automated system in java, but then I realized it's way too much work. I may as well spend this time on trading. Besides unless you go for a high freq. one, a lot of people tried to come up with one based on logic and failed. In the end, I realized the best approach (at least for me) was to take what the platform already offers, add some condition based (simple if/ele) indicators and go with that. So anyway, unless they have a lot of time on their hands it's not really worth it.

The translations to English are a little week, so it can be a bit of a struggle at times. I came to it with a fairly decent grasp on the C language, which it is very heavily based upon...so that helps anytime I need to reference something. I don't know how difficult it...
