Another thing you have to consider is that the EU is just starting its massive corrosion with Greece and Ireland and probably spain tanking. The EURUSD dropped drastically. EU president who didn't agree with Euro bonds retired. With EU only getting worse, with the swiss not allowing investors in, and with threat of Noda intervening again, it might very well be the USD that takes up safe haven strength. I mean sweden......that's not where people are going to bank. So even without boj intervention, the USD right now is getting stronger as we've already seen the gain in recent weeks without intervention.

Yeah, it was more lack of objection that I was intending to convey which is meaningful given that they all didn't seem too happy about their last intervention at the time when it happened. They understand now that Japan has to do what it must. At the conference, they didn't attack Japan's last intervention so without their outright objections it would seem that when Japan intervenes again, they won't all come out against it or disapprove when it happens and that might its self mean a steadier effect.

I can't argue with your observations. Just how this is going to unfold is anyones guess. Personally I can't see Japan intervening just yet.....there's no point. Better to let this Greece default and possible ejection/withdrawal from the EU unfold first, and see what the damage is to the Yen. Imagine....they spend billions intervening now, and next week Greece defaults etc and then UJ tanks.! Be a big waste of Japans money, no?

Like I said though, it's anyones guess how this will play out.......

Hoammm....The cross selling give USDJPY pressure,break 76.80 possible we are going downside
But we are still ascending pattern

I hear that. EurUsd is driving this pair down now, can only imagine what will happen with a Greece succession. USDCHF is picking up all the dollar strength right now as EurUsd goes down.

As a result i dont think that the Japanese authorities will intervene as long as European debt problems remain unsolved. It may take months before a solution/consensus has been reached. We all know that European burocracy is not exactly known for speedy decision making.

In short, given the above, we might not have seen the lows yet. Authorities in Japan probably regret not having acted more swiftly and boldly a few weeks ago thus leaving all marbles for the Swiss.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression ! Credibility is THE name of the game.

The boj will act for sure. Noda needs greater revenue in exports to rebuild. But you might be right that they will wait a bit to see where euro goes.

They are like a dog at the racing track, constantly one step too late. Too stupid to realize that they will never be able to catch the rabbit like this. This waiting and observing game no longer impresses the big boys. Later this week important Us data will be released. What if these numbers are well below consensus ? New all time lows could be on Japanese doorsteps this very week.

Japanese authorities need to act swiftly and boldly in order to prevent the Jpy from appreciating further. Time to stop chatting and take matters in their own hands. Imo, attack is the best defense. Have serious doubts though whether they have to guts to do so.

They are actually quite good at shoring up their economy staying with trends and keeping sizable savings. They are flexible and resilient. Usually intervention isn't economically sound but unless they are flexible enough to change their whole production infrastructure to put more emphasis on raw materials, their JIT model doesn't allow for poor demand or it's revenue equivalent.

Said it many moons ago, short the bounce. Has been paying off for years. Why ?

- Us economy way worse than Japanese
- loss of credibility of both Boj and Mof
- lack of G7 intervention support
- lots of talk, monitoring but no action
- Swiss took the pie and left the Japanese with nothing but crumbles
- Euro is and will remain devided for some time to come, feeding uncertainty and flight to one of the only largest safe havens left in the world

Now, how to restore the mess they are currently in ? Swiss like action ?

Afraid that its, once again, too little too late !

Euro's not coming back up anytime soon..
The difference may be that you focus on 5M or 1H intraday. My focus is on the 4H where the trend is up as measured by the 60EMA which is rising and is about to cross the 200 EMA which is flattenning after descending for months. The RSI is still above its rising trendline. If that would break, I would change my view but until then, I am long.
