That's one way of doing it. I prefer to forget about half of the equation and only focus on targets. That's where the profit lives. It always worked for me. If the target becomes invalid, trade closed at a loss, whatever that loss might be.
Such strategies work too. Like your title quotes it... those kinds are a matter of managing your margin...

i started using marx.. and another someone wanted me to test. i cant give that one out. but you can use any indi that don't repaint,, and go see where they agreed and it was a good trade. .. then just look for the same picture at a s/r and repeat.. with a tight stop.. marx has to be above 80 or below 20..... you will have to find the sweet spot on the other you use. the ma one alone can make money.. but alone it less of a move..i want a 40pip moved min.. s/r can be anything such as a fib or a ma.. i like a solid s/r.. the ma levels i see posted here often agree. some of the s/r i use is pre 2007
you don't want to be in every trade. so cherry pick the ones with the biggest move potential. since your indis are doing exactly what everyone says your not supposed to do. (calling a top or bottom) at least st. the previous move is your target. the last base... supply demand or whatever you want to call it.. the mid point to it.. some profit should be taken.. if your entry was at a strong s/r and it comes back.. you will be stopped out at b.e.... but if you had taken some profit.. you can move your s/l to the other side of s/r... protecting your s/l some.. and it a free protected trade as long as the s/r holds... that's why i post many times a particular # is protected. be the way pa reacts.

The one thing that is indeed better about tight SLs with good R:R if it is done right its way more profitable but if it works for you keep it like that and milk it as much as you can. Who knows how regulations will change in the not so distant future...

Honestly, a, as experienced as you are, they probably work against you, IMO. In automation, they have to be used.

Last night, I had 4 stopped (and rolled over) moves netting a loss of 46, the last one from 6:31E to 6:53E, when it got long at 4304 and is still hanging in around 100 positive (it's going flat here soon; I don't like the "feel" of the fundamental background to hold the weekend). At least one of those, I would never have taken had it been traded live.

But the point is, if it hadn't mindlessly rolled right back in for this last move, the day could easily have sucked. That's a component of positioning to profit from trends: usually, 80% of moves happen in the first 20% of the clock time. With "human" placed resting stops, there's a tendency (and sometimes a reason) to not rollover, even if trading at the screen, you would have.

EDIT: While writing this post, put in a 4405 trigger while it was trading 10-ish, and it fired.

Stay cool. I'm going someplace where it isn't over 100 every day for the weekend.

I agree with you. I tried what everybody is talking about. This is not the first time.... It just doesn't work out for me.

I have longs all the way up there, It didn't keep me from shorting on the way down. It would have been nice to not get stopped out so much on the way up today....

I said it many times here, people should not do what I do because I use pretty low trade size compared with my equity (but many of them) + a bunch of other tricks just to keep the margin sane...


What usually happens, you have to go through a full cycle to see the results. Yes I have floaters both ways but the wrong ones tend to decrease in number as we move the other way.....
