it depends on trading style.

I start (most of the time) every trade as scalp (so with half to full position) and let it develop.

When the easy part is gone, or I feel that I do not like momentum, I will cover my position.

If I would only take 50% of my usual position size, I would need the double amount of pips, forcing me to stay much longer in the market.

So I only take half or full position with very tight SL.

I even prefer to sequestrate in 66% or 75% of origin amounts ...

Keeps me more busy ... is much safer ... makes more entries and exits ... and optimizes results ...

Dritteln oder Vierteln ... und dann wieder was drankleben ... and many times in and out again ...

And I do love ENTRY STOPS beyond so-called unexpected levels ...

cause atm i posted we were at 4415.. 4416 is a s/r level. my 1m was not ready at 4415 so i knew it would not be ready at 4416..i had posted 4416 in a previous post. so the next level is 4433/34.. by then i may have a trigger. i don't know till its there. 1m is not as reliable as a 5.. so a good s/r helps. thats why you will c me post im looking at a certain level before we get there. i know the level i just need a sig to take it. i try to wait as long as possible to get the best price. that's why i miss entry's by a pip many times..

Yeah, to much volatility. It's why I favor closing positions if price closes below/above x level. Generally, that same level is the level I entered on... so as soon as I get a close above/below, i'll wait for a retest then close her out. Generally gets me a be or even a few positive pips. Only when price is hell bent on a direction does it cause issues.

Hey how is trading going. I hope you are doing fine. I closed the shop a few minutes ago.

Just a quick comment. Mate you are smart and educated person. I am not very sure that you meant that a currency is just a "social construction" for a few speculators to play with and the underlying value and real function of a currency is irrelevant in the long run because everything is already predefined in charts.

Any currency exist not for traders to speculate with in a EW or whatever other framework but in the context of cash flows, transaction and the most basic instrument for any economy and society to work. Rates, inflation and risk are the 3 main and probably only components in the value of a currency, the rest is speculation.

I am not implying that we can and must only trade the real fundamental because that impossible and not realistic but discarding any key component of the value of an instrument is illogical.

Is like we open the Lehman chart before it went bust and discard the solvency issues and all the liquidity and credit problems in the market and look for a EW count to buy when wave c is finish.... you get my point. At the end (not for trading) any currency is the reflexion of risk, rates and inflation in the long run.

Not quite at 0.25% yet but hit 0.5%-1.5% (average around 0.9% incl. spread + com) risk for 2-3% most of the time.

That's one way of doing it. I prefer to forget about half of the equation and only focus on targets. That's where the profit lives. It always worked for me. If the target becomes invalid, trade closed at a loss, whatever that loss might be.

the global economy is a very complex, interconnected system with a lot of forces at work that most average people don't think about or would understand completely. It is a bad thing to have more debt than we can pay and have no plan for getting out of it - a nation should not consider "bankruptcy" as a valid option! That said, the entire basis of our "wealth" in stocks (all corporate valuations) is based on psychology of the market - ie: confidence promotes buying because things will improve; pessimism and fear promote selling or minimize buy in because things are going to hell in a handbasket. The idea of an open market as envisioned by Adams and company long ago was simply to let natural forces of supply and demand dictate what products and services would thrive and which would fail as well as providing incentive for entry into the market with innovations - survival of the fittest to the benefit of the market as a whole. This is a good thing, but it is an economic model, not a social model. The very concept of an entire society based on consumerism is not sustainable in the long term. People need each other, not more stuff. We are constantly bombarded by product placement and promotion for things that do nothing but distract us from real satisfaction and shield our eyes from real problems. When the primary goal of every corporation is simply to maximize shareholder profits and the entire goal of most politicians is to get reelected by their largest contributors, the humanity in the system is lost. People also need to generally compromise and find common ground to have a health, productive society but that doesn't "charge the base" - that is one reason why things seem so skewed now. The division between rich and poor is so incredibly wide that it is beyond comprehension and the chasm between right and left politics and ideology has gotten to the point where we have lunatics on TV basically screaming at each other like children and they are our presidential candidates! This historically has been a major factor in societies reaching a tipping point and revolution in the streets. All "great empires" of the world have failed, but a culture should be able to endure and prosper and grow if you can find a way to stick to basic principals of what it takes to be a human being. We only lose if we don't find a way to come together and I still hold hope that people of this country can wake up and see that. A great depression may come, and it may ripple through the world and cause enormous change and upheaval. Unfortunately, it will be on the backs of the poorest that the wealthy will first stand to keep their heads above the flood waters.
