Again, having seen it in two other professions, I am only left to imagine the level it gets taken to in the financial world, given that the focus there is explicitly and unashamedly about money (and power, of course). My imagination is pretty "out there" but, I am fairly certain it does not expand far enough into the dark spaces it would need to go to paint an accurate picture of the things that occur at the top of the financial pyramid. Actually quite disturbing to think about.

Yes and no. With the exception of a couple years in academics out of grad school when too young to know better, I've been in this business all my life.

Started with the ground floor when option pricing was starting to be applied to bonds and swaptions. Since I was a model guy (more of an implementer and interpreter than theoretician) but could also write pretty well, that produced a lot of written and spoken word, and ended in risk management, which also did (compliance, regulation, internal defense of strategies, that sort of thing).

Tell that to that old cigar chewing son of a bitch and he would have suggested your interest in vision would be better served by a career change to optometry, and helped you out with that right then.
