The United States is not Greece, Ireland, Portugal or even Spain or Italy. The US is to the eurozone periphery as chess is to tic-tac-toe.

The bond market certainly think so. Treasury yields are near all-time lows, despite all that political nonsense. And remember, the interest the U.S. pays on its debt is far, far smaller than its tax revenues. If the Treasury prioritizes interest payments, then there's no conceivable way the U.S. could default.
We're all stories in the end. Just try to make it a good one.

i called them in 2008. they literally told me they don't want the market to tank. therefore, by widening the spread reduces the players in the market. it's going to be difficult to trade.

Precisely! So look at California. How much bigger is it than your above list of country's economies? And they write IOUs for social security payments? AAA? Go through state by state and see how many of them are on the brink of bankruptcy. Go lower and look at municipalities...even worse. Some have already tried to file for bankruptcy but have been told they can't! AAA? Me arse.

Problem! They're failing...badly! If the problem was isolated to interest on their debt being covered by tax revenues...life would be grand. Unfortunately its a grand shit show. 2 trillion in cuts over 10 years? WTF!

You keep bringing up entites that are in fiscal strife but are not even in the same league as the US. Not even remotely close to the same league. You are comparing apples to oranges.


If you can't see the difference between bonds issued by a state like California or muncipal bonds (LOL) and the bonds issued by the United States soverign then I might as well be talking to a chimpanzee.

Amazing, so many people online today . I thought it an active trading day by the look .May be special session. Then I see the downgrade US & so as the week still not closed may have the chance close below 4153 again !!!or continue what doing > few days bear or ranging to get this status with next week close . anyway nothing is so important for the market may be , can take its own way .random reactions possible .
