And cloggie, I do have a short, thanks to your 24 level. Wanted to experiment with your scaling in method, but I still have much to learn with that.

You need to start at the basics, Black/Scholes/Haven/Baaquie. The problem is though what field and area of Mathematics suits your personality, background and experience.

I am not the one to ask for recommendations, quite a few quants frequent this thread that may be better suited for doing just that.

I have posted hundreds of post covering just that, just have a browse. I am very big on correlation and risk as part of my fundamental strategy to trading. I get ridiculed for it plenty of times but it forms the heart of my trading style coming of an equities and bond background. Trading must be a whole enveloping approach in my book, just techs, or just fundies will not hack it on its own. There are though very few proper traders here who thorougly understand and use the fundies to their advantage.

Next hour close above 1.45061 would make likely for Asia session to test highs.

Waiting to see a lot ping-pong between 1.45061-1.45119.
They think they are smarter than I am.

This might ruin some dreams, but I went to school to be an engineer, not to far from done but I dropped out of that field, like I said, because I realized that unless you are a young prodigy, you will be designing parts for various manufacturers or some jockey work.

We are talking the young geniuses who are recruited by Google or Boeing.

That crap isn't even worth looking into IMO unless you are a natural. Even then, comprehending it is one thing, developing skills to build off of it is the part you can't really learn.

And if you are that good, you don't' even need to trade, you can just join the ranks of developers working for big corps' with 7-8 figure salaries and stock/options packages worth 10,20, 50 million.

that is a lot of what's wrong with our education system. we're not forced to specialize early enough to develop the skills. early education used to be used to figure out what a child's natural talents were. now we just put everyone together and hope someone develops enough critical thinking skills to break out and do something neat.

110% agree with that. I am not the quant kind of trader. I still datamine data, Tb's a month and do have my uses for it, but am struggling to get to the quant side of trading, not for a lack of trying.

quant trading and algo trading is def becoming very popular in spotfx

I read somewhere upwards of 30% of all volume moved in the fx is algorithmic.... amazing

Ive read a few basic primers on quant and algo trading... but nothing anywhere near where i could extrapolate techs and theorems for myself

I disagree, we are getting to the point in this world to where there is more info than any one mind can comprehend. So ONLY the few individuals with the intellectual capacity can comprehend vast amounts of info.

Look at it this way, we are going down a funnel and we don't know what is on the other side.

The size of the processor drops and it's capacity increases significantly every six months by 2fold, we are to the point to where within a few years, it can't get smaller unless we develop cell {blood that is} size processor.

It has nothing to do with the education system, all the information is there, there is just no one to process it all.

The information availability is also creating a problem... I think my generation is the last of the critical thinkers, and recalling it, it seems like only a select few of us could actually do this as well.

Everyone else is always google this google that, perform task, slop through it. Very little problem solving as it were...

The information is nice, but sometimes it really helps to work through a problem step by step, eliminating invalid solutions.

A little curious I am about the direction of things... I still haven't decided if the information overload is a good thing or a bad thing yet.

Knowledge is power... but what good is knowledge if you don't know or understand how to use it.

about the extent of my quant and algo prowess is utilizing a few basic models to shoot out some repetitive numbers and sequences from from which we can look at to discern potential clusters of numbers that price will react around

take a gander..
