where did you enter? wehn it went higher near the MA or break of the low of pre candles?

Hi Fellow Traders,

May I ask you to help me?
Maybe you have some ideas…

I have a problem with the A_Buy and A_Sell scripts.
They don’t do anything. Other scripts load and run correctly, so my settings in Options are good.
These two scripts don’t work at my Oanda MetaTrader platform nor in my IBFX MetaTrader platform.
They don’t work even if I add a zero to the numbers of pips.
They only work if I substitute the following statement:

OrderSend(Symbol(),OP_BUY,lots,Ask,3,Ask-StopLoss*Point,Ask+TakeProfit*Point,"",255,0,Green);
with this:
OrderSend(Symbol(),OP_BUY,1,Ask,3,0,0,"",255,0,Green);

So it seems MetaTrader doesn’t recognize the “lots” variable, and doesn’t allow the use of SL and TP at initiating the trade.
Anyway, if I just want to initiate a trade manually with the F9 button, Stop Loss and Take Profit cannot be set. They are grayed out. They only can be set AFTER the trade is opened, ie. I have to modify in order to set the SL and TP.


Any idea how could I fix this?

Have you run the A_SetLotSize script beforehand?

A_SetLotSize: This script sets the size of Lots you will be trading for each session. IT MUST BE SET FIRST for each session or the next two scripts (A_Buy & A_Sell) which execute a buy and a sell WILL NOT work. It is used to set the Lot size based on the account balance and the Stop Loss you choose to use. It is pre-set to a 15 Pip SL but when clicked launches a pop up you can use to change the risk and the SL setting if you want to. That is not recommended.

OK, I tell my findings:

· It doesn’t matter if you have run the A_SetLotSize script beforehand or not. If you haven’t, the buy/sell scripts work with the previous values, even if I have shut down MetaTrader beforehand.
· The reason for the A_Buy and A_Sell scripts don’t work could be that the two brokerage firms at which I tried to use the scripts don’t allow attaching Stop Loss or Take Profit orders to a market order. It is not possible to attach a SL or a TP to a market order when I press the F9 button at Oanda, nor at IBFX. The Stop Loss and Take Profit fields are grayed out.
· At Alpari.co.uk it works as it should.

I’m curious if anyone can use these scripts successfully at Oanda or IBFX.

Survivor, I would like to ask another question on your method, refering to the above from you post #5274. Are you using a Buy Stop for price break above previous high and a Sell Stop for price break below previous low? I do think that it can work to set up a Buy or Sell Stop with the associated stop loss at the other end of the candle after you have identified the setup candle, and then sit back and wait for the trade to go your way.

If the answer is No, then why not please? Please comment on my reasoning!

If the answer is yes, then at what stage, or point in time, do you enter the Stop Order? If you enter it when you expect a breakout to occur and it does not happen, would you cancel the Stop Order and re-enter for the next candle if it still looks acceptable?

Also, what would be the criteria for cancelling an existing Stop Order before it has been triggered? I believe you set the stop loss at the setup candle low for a buy and setup candle high for a sell. Would you cancel if these stops are violated in the next candle(s) BEFORE the Stop Order has been triggered?

Try these. They work on IBFX, 4 or 5 digit, ECN, etc. Unzip it straight to your metatrader folder, and it will put everything where it needs to be.

You can look at the code and modify the other scripts to work the same if you wish.

Interesting situation in the EURUSD today. In the first case price shoots up, then retraces close to the 10 EMA, appears to find support at 1.4300 but finally goes down.

In the second case price shoots up again, retraces close to the 10 EMA, finds support at 1.4300 and continues up for many pips. The MAs look different now but would have been very similar if price had continued to rise in the first case.

Interesting to notice that in the first case the price went up when Frankfurt opened but reversed as soon as London opened.

Hm from my chart the second retracement didn't look like it went back to 1.4300, more like 1.4315.

PS: Ok now I got it, yeah mimic was right. Seems like the 1.4300 S n R is significant....

Thank you for your kind words.
I think the discussion about the scripts doesn’t need to be continued; however this issue is of course related to Choros since these scripts are the core scripts of Choros.

I’ve found the solution and share it with others who might face the same problem in the future.


The reasons of my problem that the buy and sell scripts didn’t work, were the following two points:
· Some brokerages execute your market order in MetaTrader as “Market execution”. This is good regarding you will not get requotes – your market order will be executed at the actual market price for sure, without the need to modify your order price if the price moves in a fast pace.
However, in this execution mode of MetaTrader the MetaTrader terminal doesn’t allow you to set Stop Loss and/or Take Profit orders while opening your trade (you have to attach SL and TP later by modifying your trade).
At such brokerages (e.g. Oanda, IBFX) the original buy and sell scripts won’t work until you modify the code as I described above.
· I set the leverage too low.
For the suggested risk percent (1.5% per trade equals 3% per position consisting of 2 trades) and Stop Loss (15 pips) to work, you need approx. 1:30 leverage. If you want to trade two currencies at the same time or apply a higher risk per position or a lower SL of e.g. 10 pips, you need at least 1:50 leverage, preferably more. So you could face problems at US brokerages where the leverage is limited by law to 1:50 at most. You could get along with 1:50, but you will definitely need at least 1:50 leverage.

Solution: Firstly make sure of you have 1:30 leverage at the least. Secondly use a broker which apply “Instant execution” for market orders in MetaTrader, or modify the scripts or use other scripts.
