Nice journal there. You're growing your account slowly yet confidently positive all the way without a single loss (by following each of your post). Do you mind sharing your strategy with us? Are you using any indicator / naked-trading? or trading with EA alone? thanks.

No real strategy yet. I scalp mostly, during volatile times. I've played with adding indicators, but I find I don't really use or trust them much for anything. I keep a few moving averages around to get a sense of the trend, that's about it. Lately, I've been toying around with building up a position for a carry trade, it's something that interests me quite a bit. I've started buying into AUD/JPY a bit (very very small amounts to begin with).

My EA's are totally unsuccessful so far, but I've only just started looking into this.

The idea of a carry trade really interests me, largely because of the passive income component. Trading, although offering so much more freedom than a conventional job, still requires you to monitor your trades and watch the charts day after day.

I'm going to try building up a carry trade position. I've been buying some AUD/JPY to start, and I'm earning a cool $0.12/day at the moment.

Still building up more positions in AUD/JPY. Also took a small position in USD/TRY and USD/ZAR. Currently earning $0.17/day off interest. Owned a bit of NZD/JPY but decided to sell it off for a nice profit.

I haven't updated in a while, largely just due to much lower activity since I'm trying the carry trade out.

Since my last updated, I had a milestone of $150 which I reached in my last post. I topped up the account with an additional $200 and continued as normal. I've been busy building positions in various currencies, USD/TRY, USD/ZAR, AUD/JPY, USD/MXN, etc...

Interest is around $0.35/day, down a chunk because of some recent positions I unloaded for a substantial gain.

Haven't done much lately other than inch forward, bit by bit. The nice thing about this method is that I spend maybe 10-15 minutes/week looking at my trades.

Well done, CrabmanDan. Be wary of the carry trade pairs. I had positions on USDTRY and USDZAR with Oanda at one time, and then came news spikes and very wide spreads.

It sounds like you are mostly trend following - how do you plan on dealing with ranging periods? Are you going to trade your MAs as they cross? I've found this to be difficult personally.

Thanks for the warning, I'll keep an eye out.

I don't really plan on actively trading my positions, I want to just leave them to sit and earn money to be honest. I've gotten over excited a few times and sold a few positions for short term gain, but the overall goal is not to think about things like MA crosses, etc...

Not much activity lately, other than collecting interest. I picked up a little USD/HUF, that's about it.

Haven't updated in a while, but there hasn't been much to say. Slowly gathering interest from my positions. I do occasional short term trades, but mostly I leave everything alone.

I've closed most of my carry-trade positions, they were in the green quite a bit and I figured I could make some money selling them off. I'm waiting to get back into them at a better price now.

I've also been trying out trading at much higher timeframes, and I'm finding it more to my style. I had a goal of getting the account to $650 by the end of August, and it looks like I'll probably hit that.

I find that it only takes me a few minutes every day to check my trades, put in new ones, etc... very relaxing pace for me and my gains seem to be just as good. I'm deciding now whether or not to put in a few thousand more and see what happens.

Thanks for coming back, CrabmanDan. What's your leverage look like on initial entries and adding to existing trades? Are you still focused on carry trade, or have you ventured into trend trading now?

My EUR/HUF USD/TRY test account doubled in a year and I only took about a dozen trades with leverage maxed to about 15:1 when it went against me for a while. Definitely a good idea that I've taken live.

It's been an interesting few months, I've been recovering from shoulder surgery, and I'm in the middle of packing and moving across the continent. I also completely forgot about this journal again

On a trading note, when I got to $900, I decided to top it off with another $1500 or so. Since then I've slowly but steadily built my account up even more, and a few days ago I broke $4000.

To answer dr_zeus, I still like carry trade, although I unload those whenever they're really ahead. My leverage for each individual trade is about 1:1 (or lower, yes, very low), and overall I don't feel comfortable with more than about 5:1 live at any time.
