In any case the news is pretty grim but no sirens yet in Hawaii so far which is good news.

Tokyo stock exchange is closed for weekend,and most internationals are just taking money out of futures ant stocks,ant this drives up liquidity in currencies,thats why such a sudden rise in jpy,also its overkill on all the longs hope japan gonna recover soon.

That was no ordinary tremblor, and there are an awful lot of people that will never walk home again.

Watching the tsunami sweeping lines of moving traffic off roads, and the rows of houses tumbling, and burning, gives this a bit more significance than your rather callous post alludes to.

You need a remedial primer in humanity 101.

It is natural that people are evacuated as a precaution. It does not mean JAPAN IS ABOUT TO MELTDOWN!

No, it was a big quake, and there will be significant loss of life. However I doubt the economic impact will be as severe as people are implying. That was my point. I could be wrong of course, just my opinion.

And I'm sorry you took my post to be callous. I don't think it was. I have lived in Japan for many years and know well the Japanese experience of earthquakes. They are better prepared than anyone to deal with an event such as this. Earthquakes are an extraordinary but unavoidable part of life here.

I was trying to make sense of the markets, obviously absent this event, what we could have expected today was a market bounce, which we still are getting, I think it's just subdued. And the more I'm looking at it, the more I feel the Dollar index is getting hit because of the Yen/risk and carry trade combo + repatriation. I'm not sure how long this could continue, it could be a month or more even.

I don't think it will be @ 90 any time soon, but buying now is the way to go.

90 seems like a far off wishful dream. It will get there eventually...a year or so from now..maybee. For now I am long and not just because it is at such historically price. I am getting more and more Bullish on the USD as time goes but. Have seem some very encouraging numbers and employment coming out of a recession is always a lagging number.

We have had now 4 months of revisions to the upside on employment data (typical of an economy on the rebound to the upside) which leads me to believe better times are right near, very near.

I am still long on this PAIR.
