Yeah, people are dying but I still need to pay my mortgages so I gonna short the yen to hell, pal. If yen let me make enough money, I might donate some money to save Japanese souls, buddy.

It does seem weird that it's not rallying. Any insight on this? I was thinking something like profit taking by large institutions but that would have the opposite effect.

Maybe I haven't traded natural disasters enough to know but isn't it almost guaranteed that it's going to rally? With destruction like this I can't see how the JPY is going to appreciate; it should have the complete and utter opposite effect, right? (ie: strong rally on USDJPY)

You will get burned badly if you think it's that easy.....

Everyone and their grandparants are trying to sell the Yen - think outside the box.

Not to say the Yen won't weaken but given the general negative yen atmosphere I expect otherwise.

True story, I saw the Yen going down and I was like wtf......so I hedge my position, ate the loss, took the hedge off on top......and made over 100% of what i wanted out of the original trade as people re-bought Yen!

Im baffled myself, but i think your right. It may have been institutional profit taking and the sudden strength of E/U helping H1 chart turn bearish..

i got burnt already, cant figure out whats going on. i cant see how yen is going to appreciate , for me long would be wise.

Good job man!

Let's say in the slightly longer term though (max...2 weeks) -- from what I see Japan is going to have one hell of a disaster to recover from, which is going to hurt their economy which is going to devalue the yen. Is my logic pretty intact in thinking being long isn't a bad idea?

At least they had a little warning

It seems that this wedge thing is going to keep going to the bitter end <sigh>

On another note, my heart goes out to the people of Japan in te wake of this terrible earthquake......I hope everyone at ff is safe
