DislikedClassic5K posted downthread, and you had it pegged, for the looks.
The NYFE! Did you have a seat? They were around 10 grand. I almost bought half of one; they had T-bonds, if you remember. I asked around, though, and the general tone was "meh." So my friend bought the whole, I think for around 12. Sold it a couple years later for 6. Leased it out for 183.33 a month on a 2 year lease, exactly covering the seat hold costs.Ignored
DislikedMy first seat lease was at the CME for an IOM seat, I paid 4,200 a month for a year. Years later it had fallen to 1,200, with the start of the Eminis. The price of the seat had fallen to I think 120/140K. I bid 110, and never got filled. Then the Emins took off, and so did the seats. Then the CME went public, and they converted the seats to two parts. One part was the trading right, and the other part was the equity. I think the CME stock opened at 48 its opening day, and then went to what 800, lol. Needless to say, it would have been a nice little...Ignored
DislikedNYFE had sent out to brokers to promote it, pretty sure they started trading it the 80's.Ignored
DislikedAnd now you can trade CME E-MINIS for 65 dollar a month data subscription at any propfirm... times have changed.Ignored
DislikedAh, sorry. I read over that part; you meant NYBOT. I just got so excited about the reference to NYFE, (that was the NYSE's abortive foray into futures). I hadn't thought of it in years.Ignored

DislikedYeah, all the Chicago seats: CBOT, CBOE, CME, all made the old men millionaires one more time on the public offerings. The outlier exchanges, except for NYSE (which got down to 70 thousand at one point), pretty much nothing, until London came over and bought the NY exchanges, but even then, I don't think they made much.
I remember those sub-seats. IMM got to trade a few pits, IOM a few others, like that, right? The big trade would have been CBOT for under 200 just before CBOE; they got an options seat for free. A lot of the old grain men had no...Ignored
DislikedAt our propfirm, I don't allow most traders futures trading for example. Too risky for our firm. Imagine, if some traders are calling in saying they have 3 shares of POT, and when i look at it its 3 putsIgnored
