EU is doing all they can to see that it happens before March discussions etc. come. They want Portugal swept under the rug sooner than later. Getting Portugal to "cry uncle" has not worked. This mornings little rate rumor clearly a shot across the bow at them.

3643.3/3648 was a good zone on the way up, could still be an area to watch on a pullback...

One quarter bip. And 5MM notional on 30 days.

Expiring contracts are cash settled against the average daily Fed Funds overnight rate for the delivery month ... calculated and reported by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

I was talking the 30day $5million one, I thought I recalled it was $41.67...just looked it up, it is. They trade it in 1/4 ticks now. Anyway, one had a customer open an account, and started buying the front month, with like 10-15 days left like mad. I think they quoted us like...hmmm, maybe 9650/51. Anyway, the guys just keeps buying them, and they keep seeling them. So I ask the guy, what the hell dude, there expiring in days, I mean there going no where right. He says to me, he works at a bank, and knows one of the original guys who wrote the contract specs. Turns out, there is a rounding error somewhere in the calculation. Think it had to do with the number of days in the month. Long story/short...guy ends up buying 1000 cars, and making a pip on them, lol. Easily in the top ten trades, I've seen. Next month naturally, they had it figured. Still he made 40-50k in a week. Closed his and left. Loved it.

ED had (may still have) a delivery arb like that. Has to do with day count or weekend wrap, IIRC. Knew a guy with HSBC; they did huge volume building synthetic swaps with the contracts, and matching them against ISDA dealer market swaps, again arbing a couple days interest on very big sizes.

OQ, ever been active in Sugar. There was a serial contract, again think it was a Feb, that I am almost positive went off the board, and Gator will love this...at zero..lol. The front month, I think March, was at like 4.5cents, and this Feb was like at 3. Sure enough, I heard of great retail interest from my broker buddies, their customers where buying it like mad. Each day it went down. I last remember seeing it at like 0.30 cents, and the last day of trading, pretty sure they put a zero up. Does that ring a bell?

Looks like a good chance that a flat top is going to be constructed by NY on top of this mesa.

Methinks this might be a weekend to hold over. Decide that later in the day, but for now, going to do some meaningful work.
