The Element of Time in Trading

Amazing how price responds when it arrives at one of the arcs. Each spot on the chart represents TIME and price. I think it would be an interesting project to catalog the time when price changes with each swing in a trend. Any pair should do (with good volume) and larger time-frames will probably be easier to work with. Not volunteering for the project...just a thought. It may yield an interesting time pattern .

I actually back-tested a system ignoring news. For the most part, price went on as per...on "schedule".

this threat was a laughing stock at the first page,i though so too,

but i found something interesting which relates to the pyramid idea
in this there was knows chinese buying of euro,trying to keep it in the 35area
at 1.3555 there was small offers
so my guess is that teh chinese tryed to reach those levels
but that can be clearly seen with trendlines line interception too
after the price intercepted with the trendlines and the offers were hit the price went lower,as not much demand was seen
kind of like it resisted at those levels ,went down i adde one more trendline and the pyramid shape was formed

i also find it interesting when i was drawing trendlines in asia ,yesterday that the price always rebounded from the interception

did anyone here have any relative experience with trading off interceptions?

When i started in this business i had a load of money,i invested in hardware,computers and had a go,

4 years later after investing in software,[education]i feel i known the basics,trendlines,pattern recognition,fibonacci,pitchforks,candles,etc etc

i then started this thread on time,after seeing the turn on tuesday
i feel i should go back to my first post

what links planets,pyrmids,the moon space travel,flowers sunflowers,bone length etc etc,

In "timing" you're basically looking for a change of state which can be (in order) reversal, acceleration or consolidation. Cyclical patterns do at times invert meaning you can have repeating lows/highs. fwiw...

Haven't read the whole thread but good topic. I'm surprised though that a fellow Dynamic Trader user hasn't posted anything to date.

In any case attached is the XAUUSD daily chart with swing highs (2 LL's either side) and swing lows (2 HH's either side) marked across bottom and top showing the numbers of days up from previous swing low and vice versa down from previous swing high.

When looking at cycles you have to realize that they almost always vary in length but may have some kind of rythym that can be used to make a time projection into the future.

For instance taking the swing highs, if the swing of 2 days and the one of 9 days are eliminated the rest (12 of them) fall between 3 and 6 days.

Therefore it is very probable the next swing high will be made between 3 and 6 trading days from this past Thursday if the same rythym continues.

Looking at the swing lows (10 total) they are all very short term 1-3 days plus 1 outside day that made a swing low on same bar as swing high all typical of a bull market. If this rythym holds than either Friday's low will hold or a low within the next 3 days should.

Naturally more than time cycles have to be used to determine if a swing high/low will have the power reverse the market.

Correct. It is not as easy as AB=CD. Well it may be just that, but not as simple as 2 waves or moves having the same length or characteristics within simple forms of measuring.

The underlined section here is important. The big IF the rhythm continues and how to know it will at the time the next is being formed or when it has completed. So more than just time cycles - We are talking about price cycles as the other type then, being a wave or a swing. Perhaps some have other definitions of what a cycle is for them. For some it could be a channel cycle or a trendline cycle, (maybe a bi-cycle, lol) who knows.

The next big IF is how to know when a move has the qualifications, pattern, or behavior, etc., to be correctly called or labeled a cycle. A swing in itself is not enough. Knowing that all support and resistance points are connected to one another helps, but there are also cycles within cycles. Example: just because the sun has set does not mean the full day is finished. Its a cycle yes, but only day to night, not day to day. If that makes sense.

I think it was auxesis who earlier said price can also go sideways at a cycle completion. Therefore it may not always reverse, that is until all cycles in said direction have completed their path or at least the major ones giving you at least a temporary change in direction. Something that could be taken advantage of, but must start with properly indentifying what a market cycle actually is.

I don't know, the content of one's posts are what matter to me.

But I think I mentioned probable turning points for XAUUSD. Not good enough?
