I didn't trade anything from 28 July to 9 November this year. Not a stock, not a commodity, not a bond, no FOREX.

Even Jesse Livermore (I consider him to be one of the best traders of all time) took time off from trading.

The point really is to stay out unless the odds are in your favour. Now the odds are not in my favor so by just not trading I am happy and secure and worry free. That improves my health and my confidence in myself. I am my hardest critic.

Take care and good fortune for you always.

i have always been against the idea that experience means much professionally. i remember when i was 27 i went to this meeting with all the heads of departments in europe and they were all much older than me. twice my age or more. i felt a bit overwhelmed with that. someone wise told me: "u shouldn't be worried, u should be proud. u are were all the others are in half the time!" so i never really believed experience but on capabilities, personnel characteristics.

and then came Forex...

in my very humble view this is all about experience. although...

You are so correct. Your words again. Thank you for your post.

and then came Forex...

in my very humble view this is all about experience. although there are exceptions, getting to be consistently profitable in forex long term is a process of mind change. and that takes time, quite some. experience teaches our subconscious about not jumping in, waiting for the correct setup, accepting (really accepting) loss as investment, remaining calm in the less probable situations, letting go of the missed opportunities and waiting for the next entry, putting up with the bad flows without loosing focus, gaining confidence on your trading, all this takes deep change in our minds, all this takes time. it all about experience...

You made the point. YOU have discipline because you are not just trading to trade. You have a Trade Plan and know how to execute it. You probably do very good in your trading. Thanks for your reply.

The reason I made the comment was I see so many here needing to be in the market.

Now is the time to STAND ASIDE.

I am a professional Forex trader. I have NO IDEA where EUR/USD will be next week and it does not matter.

What if I get in now and there is a spike up for whatever reason and I end up needing to hold or just take my 100 PIP loss....

Hi,

maybe you try out Dukascopy. They now have Bank-status and are located in Switzerland. You can have segregated accounts with them. Your account can be held in various currencies. They allow leverage of up to 1:100. They allow scalping. And they allow hedging (long and short at the same time).
Best of all: They are a true ECN broker.

If you use molecule6.com as introducing broker, you get 45% of paid commissions back. That adds good to your basis-line.

I use them and I am fully satisfied. I got no commissions for this promo LOL

it would take too much time (and a psychologist) to write them all but here are a few:

- overleveraging - i tend to correct a bad trade with 2 trades. that's loss denial. i have to accept my losses as investments. we can't get every trade right. this usually happens to me after a string of great trades. then i get a loss and i start to f#ck up from there. i get overconfident and don't accept a single losing day. and then i get into a spiral that i have a huge problem stopping. (my father taught me to be perfectionist: if i had 99% on an exam he would ask me how come i managed to failed that detail. i am always looking for reasons of why i behave/act/trade like this or that).

- not believing my trading - (i guess this one really comes with experience). even if i had a string of good trades when a couple of bad ones come i question everything i am doing. so i look for a even better method/system/strategy. since i have some time with this i always can look for and find another method/system/strategy. jumping from system to system is a know mistake. that i keep doing... hope time will tell me that there is no perfect system and i should quit looking for one.

- maybe the worst problem (that i am dealing and coping with right now) is that it's difficult for me to be out of the market. i can always find reasons to be in the market. patience is a virtue, one i don't possess, still.

- picking tops and bottoms - i never traded breakouts. now i do. the account starts to show it. as for reversals they are good entry points too as long as i wait for their confirmation. Fontu's TD counts have helped to wait.

- last important detail - Getting a life!- i needed to focus on my life. i am doing that now. i was a little obsessed with being successful at trading. seemed like nothing else mattered. being taken care of too. results showing.

very sorry for the long post. hope it helps someone.

Welcome newbie.
Don't get me wrong, but before making any kind of question regarding forex related concepts, we should at least do this action:

Thanks; I've got molecule6's website bookmarked and will look into it.

OK, I netted 1.5% today trading the range. I'm done 'til next week.
My broker will be happy; I paid more than $400 in commissions this morning. At least they've got tight spreads.

A total of 22 trades. My account is not all that small so I have larger trades. But my account is purely speculative money - I can lose everything and it won't change anything in my lifestyle. And keep in mind that I'm 50; if I didn't have much saved up by this point in my life, I'd be busting my tail working instead of trading FOREX all of the time.

Merry Christmas.
