ok. again. we are talking manufacturing as a ratio of GDP. I am betting that US is around 20-25%. Europe is a bit higher. Japan is around the same as US. Which one is the highest? I am betting the services.

essentially, if Europe has stopped manufacturing something, that will be reflected in the GDP. will it really be extreme for an average developed country? no. its a normal cycle.

I am saying its natural that countries slowly move away from manufacturing (not completely of course). its part of the growth and development. net exports and the exchange rate are completely different. On average, there is nothing out of ordinary about EU losing a bit of manufacturing.

what services are the ez countries moving to? i can sure tell you its not financial services....

Christmas came early!

Trimmed 75% of short positions from $1.42+.. letting the rest ride to $1.2690.

Other than that done trading for the year.

u.s. is one.. ez together is larger. japan is smaller and losing market share. S Korea has taken auto market share lost since 2008 from japan and Europe.
there other Asian workers that work cheaper then the Chinese. India has commodities.
i don't know about the cycle. But a trend says Europe will lose more market share as the population ages. and social cost increases. all trends..

What does the U.S manufacture???? Apart from porn movies and guns. Get real buddy. The U.S does not manufacture anything!!!!. We are the biggest debtor nation in the history of the world. All we do sit @ home and consume, consume and consume. Check anything in ur house and tell me where it's made from. Our economy is based on consumer spending and not production..

okay, we are in a misunderstanding.

If the GDP of US is X, the manufacturing sector of the US is ~20% of the Total US GDP.
If the GDP of EU (as a whole) is Y, the manufacturing sector of the EU is 25% of the Total EU GDP.

we are not talking here who has the bigger market share. net exports consist of agriculture, manufacturing, and services. you are talking about that.

it was mentioned that EU lost its manufacturing to China. I just wanted to provide an alternative as to why that happens. In the development process, a country starts with agriculture, slowly moving to manufacturing from the surplus, and then eventually leads to services. There are many developments in between... Looking at statistics, agriculture economies are largely dominated by the third world countries, where as the US and Japan have the highest service sectors. The point that I was trying to make was that it is perfectly normal, and there is absolutely nothing outrageous that the EU reduced its size of manufacturing over the years. Their services should catch up with the US and Japan.
