I don't care for Grayson, but BB is on the Hot Seat here. Propping up foreign banks. This has been discussed a million times also, but for those new to FX or just viewing this thread. Gator is right!

yes because of the trend. but it will equal out when the trend is opposite of the gap. it would take more then one time to get a real figure on this. off the bat you got a 50/50 shot. add in this particular trend is lower and odds greatly increase lower.. the question is can one handle the drawdown till gap closes. we got a female trader with a open position years old. the gap in the uc ...cad took 30 years to close.

From what I gather {some family of mine is in banking}.

1. housing crisis. We packed up loan packages and sold them with AAA ratings.
2. investors from Asia and mainly Europe purchased these 'u.s. gov't insured' loan packages with AAA ratings expecting a big return.
3. Greedy people realized that only 5% at most of the packages were audited, and when the were audited, they weren't 'turned down' but they were remixed into different packages.
4. these were all 100% insured, so they knowingly sold off these packages making profit and then bet AGAINST those packages creating a bear market.
5. U.S. regardless, have these insured, so they have to give back the money through insurance.
6. So a lot of the bailout money {hidden away} just paid back the European and such investors without the U.S. knowing it, hince why there wasn't transparency within the bailout.
7. for the packages that didn't meet the 'criteria' for being insured, there are many lawsuits coming about, which is why even though banks are making billions ... they are still in trouble.
8. In a nutshell, this is like walmart being the middle man ... Taking bad fruits from a farmer ... selling those bad fruits and making a profit, and then demanding the farmer reimburse them for selling bad apples. while profiting from both sides.

- this is my take {very very basic take} on the way things went down.

In the end, a bunch of investments that were insured by the U.S. govt went down. And those insurance claims are rolling in through lawsuits & such.

If some country has the stated goal to safeguard American business abroad, they ought to pay for it. I agree that US money has found its way to Europe and many other parts of the World, and this may not be desirable for the average tax payer in the US...yet, I think in the long term it does buy a lot for the US, and it is a choice of the US. With respect to banks, I don't know how much US banks are exposed to the current crisis in EU...perhaps it is cheaper to prop those banks up from a 14 trillion economy than allowing them to tank and inflict the pain on their own banks/markets.

in that case when price shot up and now fell..that would be a professional gap...and happens during the interbank market...the spot market follows right after...

just my two cents

If ur broker close like any other bank and broker while other open in difference time zone then there could b a gap when ur broker open

Most gaps that are discussed here are weekend gaps that really don't exist, unless your b0rker closes early Friday and/or opens late on Monday. For the most part those are the gaps that are discussed here. Gaps like this don't really exist, only for your b0rker.

A true gap can exist in a very fast moving market though. Those gaps don't happen as often you'd think and are very seldom discussed here.

My theory behind the retail feed gap close is that on Sunday nights retail probably represent a larger percentage of overall volume than is the case during normal session times...

question for you

out of the 3 trillion per day traded every day in fx ...how much of that is retail ?10% 20% maybe .. the rest is institutional markets .. us retail traders are just trying to ride their coat tails. They can trade 24 hour....

so gap or no gap.

My feed is driven by 200 sources .. it went 1,3240 to 1.3353 and down again now up again by 30 pip off 1.3265..

with these kind of price movements who is moving the market ? the 90Year janitor at BOE cleaning the buy sell buttons or professional money ?

The reason they do not move market on weekend is that , for the most part fx is orderly, with days range being in the 1,5 cent range, that is the way the global markets want to keep it.
