Based on any given time frame price is moving in 1 mean direction, not both.

Red and green candles man... their are no yellow ones. (unless of course you set them to that color)!

There are times, however, like now, when the 10 pips that I may barley squeak out are not worth the risk/reward... so we drink coffee (well, now a beer) and wait it out till a direction is confirmed. This would include price moving out of this range it's currently in.

yea definitely if you have a confidence in your system, that will change your trading. A powerful technical system is the best tool a trader can have in his arsenal. When all else fails, technicals will rule.

up and down = ranging with no clear direction and no particular place to go

Looks like a bull pennant has been forming on the H1 and H4. I'm looking for a breakout to the upside.

if eu doesn't dropt significantly tonigh, it will indeed be at 1.42 - 1.43 at the end of the week with another pomo session ahead on friday. merkel mentioned, it would be okay for ez-economy, if eu rises up to approx. 1.5, my bullish longer term target is at 1.54 (long term is to be taken with a grain of salt considering the movement speed atm)...

btw: weekly and monthly pivots right in front... so what now? range down again? i don't get any clear signal.

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. Price is still definitively moving one direction or the other even when it's ranging. It is just changing directions quickly. Even with this crap range we have now, their is potential to scalp a few pips on each move grabbing the top and bottom. Risk/Reward is not worth it though because it only takes a second for it to break out of the current range... and it may be a 50/50 shot on whether you are on the right side of it or not.

It is impossible for price to move up and down. If this was possible, you would have two charts that represented the same time. It moves up, then down, then up, then down.

The only time I see this even being close to a reality, is ETF's that have inverses, and yet they have different price and quotes.

But anyways... this is nothing but a play on words (and my oh so analytical mind) to keep myself occupied... so bored right now

I am trading 4 hour chart on eur/usd.
Entry Long yesterday have 120pips so far.
Should i exit the trade?
or set a target of 1.40552?

Did she say that? when? i am surprised, when she is dying to have her Euro down. They have been trying madly from gremany to push it down. What you say she said is against all what they have been doing. Even today, she tried in her declaration , to push the euro down. I did not read she okays euro at 1.50. More likely, she was saying that all circumstances that took the euro down earlyer this year were still in position.

yeah...a significant break out of 1.40000 and then entering a bullish position.

yes, but she also mentioned that economic would only "feel" the rally, when it reaches 1.5... what else than "fire away" is meant by this?

There was a similar sort of bull pennant on 30M swissie on the 14th except that instead of breaking out northward, it went south and ended up even lower than it was when the original pole of the pennant started.

Guess one has to look at the candle formations but I find it hard to distinguish between a consolodation and a reversal sometimes...

I think you will find everyone has this problem. You don't know which it is until it has happened. All patterns point to a breakout to the topside... yet you don't see me going long yet.

I personally am not a fan of gambling in this market
