With the BoJ meetings going on for today and tomorrow, expectations are high that there will be monetary easing and/or some other measures that will come from the bank/gov't that should stem the rise of the yen.

In the meantime, I would not expect further intervention other than perhaps a defense of 83.15. Otherwise, things should be either in a holding mode, or, as the meetings move to a close a runup in USDJPY on the expectation that adequate measures will be announced.

IMO the risk is very real that 1) if the run-up in USDJPY happens, there will be a drop on a perceived inadequate response from BoJ - this happens too often and 2) the 83.15 barrier could be broken. It's really hard to gauge if and when intervention will be used (this week) - BoJ might think it has the perfect non-intervention response, and, if the markets poo-poo it, you never know if they might adopt a wait-and-see approach both for their measures to receive respect, and/or the threat of further bad US data this week, incl. NFP. ie., if they intervene before Friday, bad US NFP could undo the whole thing quite quickly. Thus, putting all that on the table, I'd think the chances for intervention this week are not high. (I did state on Friday today would be an option, but didn't know about the BoJ meetings underway)

I agree. With NFP being the great unknown, I would be suprised if BOJ/Gvt made any moves this week, unless they have to, due to a large Yen rally in the meantime. To me, it would make more sense to see what NFP brings before acting. It was NFP that began this latest decline 3 or 4 months back.....it could be that NFP turns it around again. Bad NFP will mean BOJ will have act swiftly and with power, good NFP may mean a more relaxed and subtle intervention.

Either way, best not to trade the news....better to wait and see what the reaction is...imo

What kinda does my head in is : from my news feed I see that the Bank of Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan intervenes on regular basis so what's the big deal if Japan wants to do it?

Any experts out there regarding this issue?

BOJ press conference some time Tuesday. Will they intervene after if we are still sitting close to 83? Just the press conference itself could cause some spikes.
Today's zone = Tomorrow's opportunity!

im not saying it is sorry - im saying it could be.... pretty irrelevant anyway i think we all know that if the low of the recent consolidation is is broken we will probably re test 8287 with our without a H&S!

That's an interesting point isn't it? Even though Japan is the 3rd largest economy, and given the extreme value of the Yen, it pisses people off that they want/need/intend to intervene to ensure that their own economic recovery does not get de-railed. Several congressmen voiced "deep concern" ( and other bullshit/rhetoric) when Japan intervened a couple of weeks back. Yet USA has been printing money like it's going out of fashion......here's a heads up congress.....printing money is ALSO intervention. I see it as hypocritical that Obama prints dollars and at the same time crys about Japan selling the Yen and China setting it's rate too low. Japan is doing what it needs to do to survive, just the same as USA, UK and EZ is doing.

If you're gonna throw stones.....best you don't throw them from within your own glasshouse Mister Obama!
