What shape should the chart be that indicates there is a strongest trend going on? Does near 90 degree slant for a trend indicate that is the strongest?

No. There's no such thing like existing trend. All you can see is the trend which was, not which is. Everything can change right now or in the next few minutes. Everybody would be bloody rich if the trading was so easy - spot the trend and enter accordingly.

What you see on your chart is just history, nothing else. We are going up - wrong!. We were going up - right. What are we doing right now? - observe. What are we going to do next? - no one knows. What will happen - everything can happen.

Just observe and react. What to observe - read about technical analysis. How to react? Only you can answer this question.

the chart should be a square or rectangular shape. if in doubt which type you have just do a 'fit to screen'.

now i know some will say that triangular and circular charts have their own merits, but i say stick with the herd and you wont go wrong.

The stronger the trend, the steeper the slope. But also, the stronger the trend, the sooner it will burn itself out.

That's the most ridiculous definition I've seen. If you can't understand something simple as a trend, you might encounter some problems. Unless you're a successful scalper of course

Yes, I am a day-trader. I trade with momentum when PA breaks through levels or trendlines. And I noticed that usually when you spot a trend - it's over - the next thing that is going to happen is PA changing its direction, not following the direction shown by the trend.

You're right, its a common problem. More often than not, majors trends end/reversals usually gives clues when its about to end.

The best scenario is when a lot of stops were hunt,then it flows (very) quickly.

When the pot is stolen and a (new) trend is continuing (developing), it mostly flows slower and more smoothly.

Not sure why you sound confrontational, maybe it's just my mood...

Well, by my definition, it's the rate of increase - a bunch of tall candles with little retracement is a strong trend, a bunch of up and down candles in a wide channel is a weak trend.

Just because a trend goes in the same direction for a long time doesn't mean it's strong, it just means it's consistent.

Any discussion about a trends strength is really not much of importance even though I responded to your quote. What matters is how you capitalize on it before it finally comes to an end. The eurusd trend that lasted many years was great. I made great returns on it even though my system design was only to buy some crappy breakout-levels.

hey efiler...... 'strongest' and 'slant' are somewhat relative terms..... we would need to know just what was being measured and your definition of strongest.....

and i should know better than to venture into another angles on a chart thread but here are some thoughts.....

you can, with a little code, measure the average time a moving average maintains a certain angle.... doing so you might find the strongest would be somewhere between 35 and 45 degrees......

btw, seem to remember some hayseed uploading several items reguarding angles in charts.....h
