Those are very bad numbers, coupled with bad unemployment figures, usually leads to risk aversion as people fear another recession dip.

This usually causes panic buying of USD or other safe haven alternatives (look at GOLD).

They keyword though, is usually.

some people were wondering why uchf is going down and not correlating with eu.....simple, more swiss francs are being purchased against other currencies than usd is. Eur/chf sales are driving uchf lower. For newbs, unless you're short uchf, stand aside.

In a way it's good for the dollar because USA will manufacture less therefore it will need to import which USA will be able to send dollars overseas to central banks around the world and the central banks will buy up the US debt.

What just happned. Extrememely bad FED manufacturing index came in.

Initial knee jerk reaction- sell dollar from the crazy people. Because fundamentally that means the U.S. has a weak economy right?

Final reaction- negative stock market, flight from risk to quality assets such as the dollar. Bullish USD.

Bad announcments, grim reaper = Bullish USD hear endeth the lesson sissy. It's been 2 years of this.
