Alapri UK live, classic/micro +22 & +9.5 using v9. Same for demo

I raised this topic a while ago and would like to do it again: 1yr backtests for v9 based algorithm seems to be strangely flawed.
While during the time until may 2010 the backtest till 1st of July 2009 gave 194 trades in the meantime there are only 170 trades allthough there should be more trades as I am still going back until July 2009.

has anyone else experienced seriously different figures in his/her backtests due to datacenter mistakes?

Of course my backtests are 90% modelling quality and everything else checked. But there are fewer ticks modelled.

This is quite frustrating and I do not expect Alpari do come up with a true solution.

More than happy to run backtests for you on dukascopy tick data, I have a year of gu data available. Pm me if you wish, and let me know which version of the ea, settings you'd like run and the pair, and I'll run it for you as soon as I have the backtest pc free.

Hi, I have Alpari UK, what datafeed are you using ?
You know that when you download the data feed from the history center (press F2) is downloaded from Metaquotes.com which is the MT4 software house, and their datas are not reliable because are full of chart gaps, they miss entire weeks, so maybe this is the reason of the less trades in the BT compared to your live trades.

You can try to downlaod a demo from Alpari RUSSIA, apparently it's the only broker with which you can download history data directly from the broker server and not from Metaquotes.com , try a backtest with it and compare the two results.

Yes...and No,

there are two ways to download the databank:

- Open a 1M chart and hold the "PAG-UP" button on your keyboard (remember to disable the Autoscroll)

- Using the datacenter download, press F2 , then select with double click the 1M package under the the desired pair and then press download for few times, one after one, till the message like "there ara no new data for a symbol 'GBPUSD' - do you want to recalculate all timeframes?" appear --> press YES.


The first method downloads the REAL data from your broker, and of course it can be different from one broker to another one, only problem is that you won't be able to download a long history with 1M timeframe (most accurate) and so you can't make a very long backtests. Mine stops to the 20th of May 2010, even if i put 999999999999 bars in the charts, in the options of MT4.

The second method downloads the data NOT from your broker server, BUT from Metaquotes.com which is the MT4 developer company, they have "standard" prices, they are not real prices but a sort of their own database, unfortunately they also have HOLES, and you can notice some missing days in the history, like few weeks ago there was a full week missing from the 19th to the 25th of March 2010. I don't know if now the solve it. It's not reliable in my opinion.

Solution ? I found this: Download a DEMO MT4 from Alpari RUSSIA (you can select English from the flags if you don't speak russian, i don't speak it) and, I don't know why and how, BUT, with this software, you can download the datafeed (with the history center <F2>) directly from the Alpari databank and not from Metaquotes.com , I checked it, it doesn't have any hole, and, especially if you use Alpari live, it's the most reliable way to have the "real" datafeed for your backtesting.

When you open a demo account, remember to open it with Alpari-NZ, it's the only NON-ECN 5digits server, the others are : one is a ECN server, and a 4digits server.

Hi guys,

just recently I ran across this thread, found it to be great and still in the process of reading my way through it.

I downloaded this EA and installed it on 3 accounts. One is Alpari UK microlot....one is Activtrades microlot and one is Activtrades "ECN".....

In opposite to all of you here posting your trades from last night, I didn´t get any trades.
On Activtrades "ECN" it tried to open trades but got an error message "invalid stops" which I think is due to the fact that you can´t place the TP and the SL together with the order when having "ECN" ( market order )....I forgot to set ecn=true....did so now and will see whether trades will be opened in future.

But with Alpari and Activtrades I had not even the attempt to open trades :-(

The smiley shows, the "menu" on the charts left sides shows up, no error messages in the journal - so everything seems to be fine...but no trades.

Any ideas? I would appreciate your help.
