That's a very gloomy outlook for the euro (...are you British ... lol just kidding). I think 1.6 wasn't supported by fundamentals but it went down too fast out of panic which is not healthy for any market. 1.25 looks like a healthy equilibrium level midterm. Long term if things don't dramatically change in the EZ I agree it can go down below 1.2.

However short term (2/3 quarters) I think 1.3 + is a good level supported by fundamentals given the signs of strength on the Euro zone and the bad numbers for the dollar.

It does seem very likely that China has been buying euros and thus drove up the pair because otherwise what we are looking at is very little change in the dismal situation which drove the pair down below 1.2.

Too early to call but this may be the start of a move down to 1.9 area.

emu will only continue with subsidized welfare countries. When Germany gets tired of supporting them (or war). It will fail. No ifs ands or butts. This is not the first time Europe had common currencies.

Basically all the western countries have indulged in spending what they do not have. Sooner or later the creditors will be at the door.

Right now, i would consider that the US has the biggest problem of all but nobody is paying much attention to it and are using it as a "safe haven". The problem is that it is tantamount to the passengers of a sinking ship getting into a very leaky life boat. The advantage of the US is that of being the reserve currency as well as the american personality. By constantly proclaiming how wealthy and large and powerful they are people tend to believe it, at least to some degree and for a period of time. I suspect that that period of time is coming to an end but it is probably 2 to 3 years away.

For now, the problems of the euro have been highlighted due to the problems of Greece while the US problems will become quite evident and quite dramatic later. For now, the more immediate problem is whether the EEU and the euro will be able to survive the next few years.

Is true that Germany is now paying a lot, but don't forget who benefited the most in the years before (still have to pay a little bit more if they want to Break Even...). Apart from the Piigs, most other countries in the EZ are small, very solid in economic and social terms and they are extremely interdependent with mature markets and strong consumers which add up a lot of the small bricks and they cant not be cracked as easily as Greece.

If you put this in US perspective for example a small EZ member like Slovakia is 3 times richer than the state of Wyoming or more less the sames as state of Mississippi. In other words, there is a lot of bricks in that wall. Like in the US, is not only California and few other rich states "subsidizing" the other 38 states.... and a hurricane in New Orleans can't make the US disappear (added later)...
