Methodology of European bank stress tests

We’ve got details on purpose and sample, but methodology is thin on the ground. See the table: there are two scenarios and at least five variables, but only one of the ten resulting methods is supplied. Sigh.

The aim of the tests are described in the statement:
1) to assess the banks’ ability to absorb further shocks on credit / market risks, including sovereign risks;
2) to assess current dependence on public support (read: can we exit safely yet?)

The sample includes domestic credit institutions as well as major cross-border banks. In total, the 91 banks hold 65 per cent of EU banking assets. Apparently, banks selected for each member state control more than 50 per cent of the banking assets for that country. This seems a little hard to understand, given six member states are off the list altogether: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovakia have no banks being stress tested. Another point: banking groups have been tested on a consolidated level. Stress test result date is confirmed as July 23.

damn what a bunch of crap!! i didnt know they get to choose the banks. so i guess they pick the best to get 65% and leave out 35% of the bad ones?

There's always a catch man! We're far from 23rd yet, I wanna see how market reacts to the greek debt tomorrow. Any idea of the time it will be done?

i know...i only have one eu/gu short running not protected. i cannot imagine the news being overly negative..?? i mean the guys doing the stress tests bosses are the guys who run the banks being stress tested...worst case I see is just the plain obvious...increase your capital or be shut down/bought out. some will become too big to fail as if they already aren't. again though, all EU brass said they didn't see anything wrong with EU @ 1.18...50 percent after a few thousand pips...a few hundred pips of slip below an 750 pip bounce is not out of the question by any means. most big banks still have targets lower than where we are but these are targets for end of year/beginning of next. we may have found the top of the range of course too for another month or so but I'm thinking as you are that the stress tests will be the key

Must be. I just scrolled through every Euro, Yen, Cad, Kiwi, Aussie, Swissie & Dollar pair I have access to and found nothing astray.

The spike is on the swissy....not the EU. I've got it on my feed as well which is an ECN feed ...... fwiw.

Yup, noticed too late to avoid posting my EU chart.

Here is UC and although it does have a spike or hammer candle it is nothing out of the ordinary - low 1.0597.
