Australia's Employers Add Workers for Fourth Month as Economy Strengthens

Australian employers added workers in June for a fourth straight month, supporting the central bank’s view that the nation’s economy is strengthening as mining companies boost investment to meet demand from China.

The number of people employed gained 45,900 from May…. The median estimate of 22 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News was for an increase of 15,000. The jobless rate held at 5.1 percent.

Australia’s economy will expand close to its “trend” pace over the year ahead as shipments of coal and iron ore surge, Governor Glenn Stevens said …. Hiring may advance further in coming months after advertisements for jobs rose in June, Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. said July 5.

“After adding nearly 300,000 jobs over the past year, the labor market continues to strengthen,” Felicity Emmett, a senior economist at RBS Group Australia Ltd. in Sydney, said ahead of today’s report.

The number of full-time jobs gained 18,400 in June and part-time employment advanced 27,500, today’s report showed.

Anyone thinking this is looking good for a short. I am thinking we should start seeing some kind of profit taking before the weekend, this thing has been up huge!

I will be happy to get out at .8665 on this pair. I am in 4 contracts avg @ .8770. I have taken a killing the last two days on shorting this and euro too soon I hope this one will make up for the losses. I have my SL at BE right now not going to risk anymore false moves. I will prob slowly add to my short if it continues down and then continue to lower my SL to match.

Closed both my shorts yesterday (AUDUSD and NZDUS) with a loss. Still think major trend is down. will try to catch it higher.

What is the thinking behind taking a short view on AUD

As short biased as I have been the past few days, I am beginning to think we need to see this make a double top at .8857 before going short. It had all the opportunity in the world yesterday to make a run south and it was all bought in to. We should see some kind of direction with London opening up in a few hours.

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

I have attached a chart for audusd. According to what I am seeing, there are two channels that audusd can take. I have done my best to draw each one as clearly as possible.

Do you think audusd will continue upwards to channel 2 or will it take a knock from the resistance of channel? Or something else?

I am a newbie so my observations may be totally silly.

Hi. I trade A/U all day everyday and I'm not too convinced by either of the two channels you have there (not saying that you are wrong! I could be wrong and you right or both of us all wrong!!). Take a look at my Daily chart here: #5934

  1. Home Loans: Published on Monday at 1:30 GMT. This important housing indicator reflects the impact of the rate hikes – less people are taking loans due to the high interest rate. After 7 consecutive months of drops, the number of loans is finally expected to rise, but at a very modest scale – 0.1%. This will provide a shaky start for AUD/USD at the beginning of the new week.
  2. NAB Business Confidence: Published on Tuesday at 1:30 GMT. National Australia Bank has shown a significant drop in business confidence in the past three months – a drop from 19 to 5 points, although still positive, still showing optimism.
  3. Westpac Consumer Sentiment: Published on Wednesday at 1:30 GMT. Westpac’s survey deals with the consumers. 1,200 consumers have shown less confidence in the past three months, with sharp drops of 5.7% and 7% in the past two months.
  4. MI Inflation Expectations: Published on Thursday at 1:30 GMT. The Melbourne Institute fills in for the gap created by the government, that publishes the CPI only once per quarter. According to MI, inflation is now weaker – 3.4% in comparison to a strong 4.1% figure three months ago. A drop under 3% will weaken the Aussie.
  5. New Motor Vehicle Sales: Published on Thursday at 1:30 GMT. Vehicle sales are a strong indicator of consumption, but this indicator tends to be very volatile. After a rise of 8.4% two months ago, a drop of 3.2% was seen last month. A small rise is predicted now.
  6. Chinese GDP: Published on Thursday at 2:00 GMT. Australia’s main partner continued to grow rapidly while the West suffered from economic contraction. In the past two quarters, the growth rate return to double digits: 10.5% in Q4 of 2009 and 11.9% in Q1. China releases the figures for Q2 quite early. They’re expected to show a growth rate of 10.5%, still very strong.

Here my weekly chart of the AUDUSD. Bear signal has been triggered for the medium term in my opinion.
